Got tired of my old E38 Style 5's as every E28 in town seems to be running them now. Time for something different.

Picked up some forged Style 4's (16x8, ET23) from an E38 750iL. Centers sprayed black. Motorsports caps. E32/E38 gold hollow head lug bolts. Tires are 225/50R16's front and rear.

They seem to get all the looks and comments of real Alpinas (literally had 6 people ask me if they were Alpinas in the past week) at 1/10th the cost.

A bit lighter than the identical sized cast E38 Style 5's I was running.

Just an old motorsports centercap (like what an M1 or some old M-produced cars would use).

Not sure who sells them these days (bavauto maybe?) or if anyone is reproducing them. They were included with the wheels. The only ones I can find on ebay are for the 4 lug centerbore.

Friend of mine did something similar with some 32's. He machined out the centers and painted them black:

You should see if a tire service can move those balance weights to the inside of the rim.

Yeah; tape weights is the way to go - unless you're fortuitously covering up curb rash ...

I have tape on's on the inside of the rim for clearance purposes. If the tires were newer, that might have been enough to get by on. They've got some miles on them though hence weights on both sides now.

To the OP: Did you sell off the style 5's or do you still have them? Does that motorsport cap fit on the style 5 also?

Interested in selling the style 5 center caps?

The motorsports caps work with the style 5's. They should work with any 72.56 mm centerbore wheel. They don't really look as good on them though.

I still have the 5's and caps but don't feel like selling them. The plan is to give the car a complete suspension and steering overhaul as money allows, put some sticky R-S3's on the light style 4's as a set of fun wheels, and some more mild longer lasting summers or all seasons on the heavier style 5's as a set of dd wheels. Will probably strip them down and repaint them as well.
