FS: Red Diagnostic Cap -- (Sold)

Post by pldlnr »

I have a red diagnostic cap that originated from a 1982 528e. It is intact and undamaged. This would be a very nice addition to a restoration project. The price is $65 shipped or best offer. This item will be very carefully packed and shipped. PM me with any questions. Thanks,

Paul

At least the seller took the time to clean the dirt and grime off of it before shooting the pic. Whether it's worth $65 is questionable.

One sold recently on ebay for almost double this. It is worth what someone will pay. Let the man sell his cap.

I am a little surprised by the red diagnostic cap's power to create controversy. I offered it for sale here as I do with any parts I sell. I don't sell a lot, but I always choose to offer my wares here as this is the community I prefer. I have not sold parts on eBay and don't feel the desire to do so in he future, even though it may yield more money. If that were my desire, I would have done so right off the bat.

I created my thread before a couple of other threads popped up and further muddied the waters. These caps are no longer available, fragile, and difficult to find intact. They have historically sold for around the $50 mark and, obviously, a recent example sold for more than $100. Whether or not you think it's worth it is irrelevant unless you need one. Anyone who really needs one of these is probably doing a high level restoration and wants their engine compartment to appear the way it did from the factory. Rare parts are going to get harder to find as time goes on. This will make it more difficult and time consuming to finish our cars the way we want to. As a consequence of parts becoming more difficult to find, they will also get more expensive. This is not all bad, though. Increases in parts values is one of the factors that eventually increases the value of our cars. My price was a modest increase over the historical sales numbers and was not intended to "cash in."

This is a factory original. It is not painted and lacks overspray. It survived all these years because it came from an '82 eta that did not need to have its S.I. lights reset. It is also clean, as Murfinator so graciously noted.

If you are interested, let me know. It will be very carefully packed and shipped.

Thanks,

Paul

This isn't a freaking joke. Like I said, one sold on ebay for twice this price recently. People who concours their cars are looking for original stuff like this to make them perfect, and these are no longer available in this color. Most of them have been lost or broken from use. Some of the other posts were misguided or were a joke, but not this one. Let the man sell his cap.

Paul,
I'd suggest big coupe so you can reach the 6 series crowd, more of whom are concours participants.
