Can't disagree with you on the honest man comment; McGovern not only legislated as a liberal Democrat, he campaigned as one as well. That's a far cry from most of the liberals these days who tend to masquerade as conservatives or moderates during the campaign, then govern from the left once they're in office. With George, it was WYSIWYG, and for that he gets my respect, and that of a lot of people in SD. True, the station as a whole isn't sympathetic to the Dems, but I happen to know the guy who runs the news desk at that station, and he most certainly is. He's as far left as they get, and all the right wing stuff just toasts his cookies, but he's a good sport about it, and I think it's helped him to see things from another perspective & moderated him a bit. He'll even jump in with the local morning talk show guy to lend some colorful commentary when needed, and to help make it so the talk show guy doesn't sound like he's talking to himself all the time. Pretty entertaining.

Being traditional Catholics we usually have to travel a long way to find a Latin Mass here in the bible belt. None of that 60's Vatican 2 B.S. up in here. Long story short, piled my flowery-dressed posse into the family truckster only to find an empty parking lot when we arrive because someone misread the worship times on the church website. (That would be me). Slumped over the wheel and feeling dejected my youngest exclaimed that everyone makes mistakes and that's what ice-cream is for. And that is exactly what we did. Found some ice-cream and a cool spot to hang. Best Easter ever.

We spent Easter with my wife's family, and killed a cat on the way home. My wife felt badly about it, but I told her it wasn't likely to be anybody's pet; there were no farm places within a mile or more, so it had to have been a feral cat. I was glad to be driving the van and not the e32; the undercarriage on the van is more durable than the airdam on the BMW.
Is that callous to be more concerned about my front spoiler than a feral cat?

Opened the door to go into the garage this morning and see a pit bull staring at me from about 10 feet away. I screamed like a little girl and hopped back into the house. (Trust me tough guy, at 6am you would have shrieked too).
I've seen that little punk around the neighborhood and realized he was probably more scared than me as he had just seen me in my robe. Guess he was out there milling about and got trapped when I hit the button to close the door last night.
Still half asleep and now dressed, I walked his butt across the way to where he lives only to be greeted by a nice young gal in a nightshirt and no bra. Good dog Winston, you can come back anytime!

When I went to my parents house for Easter I noticed that about 30 windmills had popped up outside the little town I grew up in. Everytime I pass one of those I always think that giant perpetual motion machine turning a generator would be more efficient. Of course the design of said machine is beyond my realm of expertise but its something I imagine every time I see a windmill generator.

I borrowed my brother's trailer for hauling bathroom demo debris to the dump, and to haul materials home. I finally finished with it yesterday, and he came to pick it up this morning. Not long afterward I got a text message from him; "Were all the clamps on the topper? The trailer is the back end of a full-size Ford pickup with a topper on it; Greg (my bro) was taking it back to the shop where he generally stores it, and the topper took flight as he rounded the long sweeping curve on the I-229/I-29 interchange.
Thankfully it just landed in the ditch, and not on somebody else's car.
Edit: I probably should add that the clamps were on the topper. But Greg had modified the system a bit so that the topper would tip up in the back for easier access to empty it out; added 1x4 planks around the edge of the bed rails and hinges at the front. You'd take the clamps off, and you could raise the whole topper and rest it on the toolbox at the front. At least that's the way it used to work. The clamps fastened the bottom of the topper to the planks, and the planks had rotted to the point where the hinges were no longer attached, but Greg & I both assumed the planks were still secured to the bed well enough... Bad assumption. When I talked to Greg, he first asked about the clamps because he could only find one of them in the ditch, but he added that the planks had flown off with the topper. Multiple errors in judgment compounded by pulling it on the highway on a windy day.
