BBS RS005 Stock Fitment

Post by eyelykeknives »

So according to the Wheel Guide I know that BBS RS 16x7 +11 will fit the e28's without any interference. But my question is if they would be too aggressive on stock suspension without any camber adjustments?

You may have interference problems with the left rear fender depending on tire selection. You do realize that there is no rear and very little front camber adjustment with the stock E28 suspension.

Put 205s on them and you should be fine. They were made for the E28.

What does that even mean?

Haha sorry. What I meant to ask was that if the wheels would stick out too much from the car because of the high offset?

Was I not clear enough when I said they were made for the E28?

In all honestly, not really haha. Maybe you guys aren't just the ones to ask this type of question to. I'm trying to see how good the wheel fitment would be. Not just plainly, "Will it fit? Will there be interference? 205's should be fine." I'm looking more for in depth answers about wheel fitment, such as stock offset for this car. This car was previously handed down to me so I'm still slowly working myself into getting to know the car. I'm not trying slam my floor to the ground, but I'm also not trying to throw random ass wheels onto my car. Thanks for your answers and help Anyway.

What?

We're not the people to ask this type of question to? Yeah, I guess we're pretty dumb.

M30 powered cars came with 390x165mm ET22 wheels with 200/60/390 tires.
M20 powered cars came with 14x6.5 ET20 wheels and 195/70/14 tires.

So, for simplicity's sake, let's say you have 14x6.5 ET20 bottlecaps on your car.

Just mounting the wheels (no tires) on the cars, the 16x7 ET11 wheels will give you 3mm more clearance on the inside and 15mm less on the outside - which means the wheel will sit 15mm closer to the fenders, but 3mm further from the struts/trailing arms, etc.

With tires mounted, you will lose .2mm of clearance inboard and 20.3mm outboard, which basically says you're 20mm closer to the fenders with the 16x7 ET11 wheel running a 205/55/16 tire than the bottlecaps.

So, does that satisfy you, or do I need to go further?

wkohler: Thanks I appreciate that. That actually helped. No, you guys aren't dumb, you guys just don't run the mentality that offset is everything, which I respect. That's actually why I preferred asking you guys because after surfing this forum for quite a while you and Moosehead seem to be pretty respectable and quite knowledgeable on this forum about pretty much everything e28 and what not. Thanks again.

Offsets are very important. In fact, if you were to search for threads where people asked if certain wheels fit, it's generally the number one question.

Not a question for us about the RS005 as it's a known fitment, albeit a tight one.

This "Wheel Guide" you speak of, where does one find this? It would answer a lot of questions for me that would otherwise just get asked here and upset the regulars.

It is in the Tech FAQ section with many other articles that people fail to read before posting questions

That said, the OP did use the provided info to see if they would fit (though he also then asked here if they would fit.)

I'm going through similar exercise of wheel upgrade to BBS RS 16x7 ET11, which I have taken good advice of reading through the e28 Wheel Tutorial. The elephant in the room is that no where can I find a straight forward/conclusive answer to "what is the specific lug bolt do I need to buy?" As you all will probably be aware, my lug bolts that came with the original/existing BMW wheels WILL NOT FIT for this BBS 16x7 E11 upgrade. Does anybody know a definitive answer, and, where on earth would I buy those specific lug bolts?

You can buy longer lug bolts from Tire Rack, FCP Euro, etc.

They just need to be long enough to go completely through the hub.  Yeah, that's not a "definitive" answer, but you can figure it out from there.
