Hi, Im getting some custom wheels made for my e28 and the guy needs to know what offsets I need for fronts and rears. Basically Im going with 17x9 on the front and 17x9.5 on the rears. I dont want my wheels to poke and would want the fronts to be close to flush and the rears tucked into the wells. Keep in mind that im planning on lowering the car pretty low. Would appreciate the feedback. Thanks

You really won't be able to have no poke at thse widths. You will also need to roll the fenders.

Ya I bought a fender roller so Im prepared to do that. I know on Jeremy Whittle's e28 he used to have 17x9 and 17x10 ACS on his with no poke. But I also realize alot of work went into pulling off that setup and alot of camber at that. That's why im thinking 9.5 should be easier and the fact that I can get them in any offset I want I just want to know which one would give me the least amount of trouble tucking in the rears and having that almost flush fronts

Check out BadSeed's car for point of reference. He's running 17x9 et8 all around and is slammed. You can probably use the same offsets for the front and maybe 17x9.5 et5 (EXTEND an extra 9mm).

By the way, what rims are you thinking about getting? It be shame to buy a brand new set of custom wheels and then have your fenders eat up your lips.

Why x9's on the front?

I am running 17x9.5 that are sitting at a +6 after the spacer.



To get poke on your are going to have to run an extremely stretched tire for the car to even be drivable. I am running 225/45's on the rear and they still rub like crazy even with the rear raised slightly. Another thing to remember is the fact that the fenders don't pull very easily; these things are built with some pretty stout metal so pulling the fenders out 3 inches isnt possible like the jap tin can cars.

For reference, what did you go with? I have run all sorts of different combos, but I would think with 9.5 rears on an E28 you would need an offset of at least 15-20 to tuck and not destroy anything.

Of course, tire size is really the biggest issue presented here. If you can have 2mm of space between the rim and the fender, as long as your tire is skinny enough, you're good.

I would suggest (against popular opinion) that you run a 225-40-17 for your 9.5 rears, and a 215-45-17 for your 9.0 fronts. Front offsets are easier to work with, as I'm sure you know.

I went with 6 on the front and 10 on the rears. I was thinking the same thing for the tires except having 40's on the front also

Post up some pics when u get the wheels. I'm interested to see how this turns out...

not to hijack, figured its along similar lines. what would a good offset be to run if i'm looking at 17x9.5 all around with most likely a 215F 225R tire, maybe 225 all around.

Das Auto? Isn't that a VW slogan? Oh and this seems like a lot of worrying and effort when some 17" style 5's would look better and drive better. But if it floats your boat, go for it.

Those are 17" style 5s that have been machined to accept custom lips. Wokke.de offers those, but the OP didn't get them from him.

Like the way they tuck, but didn't take much notice of the lip mod you had done. Not sure I dig that so much. Otherwise look nice.

That's kinda messed up, but it is semi-inevitable. I survived 3 years with stretched tires and poked wheels.I was VERY careful.
Then I mounted a curb. That was the end of that.

Info on what bumpers you have on there or what you've done.

Wheels look great. Never thought of doing that with a set of RC090's.

Looks like the US bumper rub strip applied directly to the car. Looks appropriately proportioned in those pics.

I was more interested in what you've done with the front. I see you've used the strip on the fenders but what about the signals and such. Maybe a closer shot will show me what i need to know.
