Road trip to Monterey next month. What to take?

Taking a 25 year old car can be an adventure and you want to be prepared. I'm pretty sure I have everything I need for the trip but can anyone think of something I may be forgetting?

The map looks like it was printed in the 60's. If you want to leave half that stuff at home just bring your I-fone with GPS and associated APP's. Oh and you may as well leave the rubbers at home too...you're going to Monterey not Fantastyland.

Out-freaking-standing Charles. Another perfect picture. Last night (after FINALLY getting the lower lockstrip installed on my damn windshield!!!!    ) I was trying to think what to take in the go-box for a trip to Saratoga on Saturday. All thought has gone out of the process. I'll just follow this guide.

Where's the faux roll of $20 bills? At a minimum It needs to be about 3" in diameter, wrapped with a #64 rubber band.

You forgot the golf clubs; some of the most amazing courses in the world are around Monterey.

And, no auto survival kit would be complete without at least one roll of duct tape and some zip ties!

What, a road trip with no tiki lights? I would think that'd be part of your auto emergency kit. :dunno:

Monterey. Yeah, rub it in. You, sir, suck. ;) Have fun but try not to hurl on anybody's car.

As for what to bring, please bring a decent camera. And use it to take some decent photos while you're there so you can share them with those of us who can't make it. Please?

I've got a few looneys and tooneys in case you miss the turnoff to Monterey.

What you really need is one of these:

Great way to pick up chicks or chucks if that's what you're into.

I'd tow a Mini Cooper as my lifeboat.

AAA card and a cell phone, but don't take one of these...I did last year and it took me 12 hours to get there!

Yeah you're not joking. I had to take the love boat 100 miles off course to go pick your wife up.

I live in Carmel. PM me if you would like to meet up while you're here for the car show.

I would pack more Fire Sauce,
Some Wesson Oil,
A Wagner Spray Painter and a Twister Board to go with the Condoms...
Were they out of Magnums?

Well I just need to anchor the hula girl on the package shelf and I think I'm ready to go.
Thanks for all the feedback and suggestions. I added tiki torches, handcuffs and a Judge Smails hat to my original list so I think EVERYTHING is covered now.

I'm leaving tomorrow morning with my first stop at Ron P's shop in Huntington Beach. From there, it just depends on traffic and how the car is doing.
I'm visiting along the way so I don't know where exactly I'll spend the night but Morro Bay isn't out of the question.

Thursday I'll meet up with Jeff B, Darin, Mike, John SCB and some of the LA contingent. We plan on being in Monterey by 5:00ish.

What's that line from the Blues Brothers?
It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses.
What else do you need?

Daumm Charles, looks like you totally scored on accomodation. Guessing you did a Google search for "quiet hotels in Morro Bay"?

See ya termarra somewhere along the way...
:alright:

Even though I parked in the farthest spot, the one other guest parked right next o me.

I had good drive to Huntington Beach to see Ron P. and then it was the predictable hell on the 405. I cut over to PCH at Santa Monica and drove the coast to Port Hueneme. 101 was good except for a construction area at Santa Barbara. I picked up some Ferraris between San Luis Obispo and Morro Bay. We had some fun until the CHP incident. The car has been running great so far(knock on wood).
I'm picking up the convoy where highway 41 meets the 101 in a couple of hours. We're doing the wine country safari on the way to Monterey.
A drive on US 1 in SoCal

Chas,

Glad to see you made it safely! I love the Porsche pic with the pigeons

It is so nice to see how much better the "infamous $500 M5" looks now she is in your capable hands. I always thought it was so sexy when I owned it, but the old girl looks even better now!!!

She loves road trips too, and never misses a beat. We rode her hard from So. Cal to Vancouver and back, so you should have no problem with a short one to Monterey. Have fun, be safe.
