Hi. As a certified eta person, I have to say: that is a lovely car at a very fair price. Someone is going to be very lucky to own it.
That is my favorite color combo - my 87 528e would look just like that if it hadn't rusted away on me. Yours is really nice and it shows how well you've taken care of it. Good luck with the sale (it's making me nostalgic for my rustbucket).
BUMP!
Regards,
.steve.

That car doesn't look like it has even close to 311k miles. GLWS.

One of the best looking 300k+ mile cars I've ever seen. Your asking price is very reasonable and you won't have any trouble selling it. You might, however, have seller's remorse. IMO, you should keep it in the family, maybe a grandchild that's into old BMWs? I know I've truly appreciated my super e from my grandparents. GLWS.

Thank you all for your nice comments.
It is a nice car and still a great driving car......and we will miss it when it sells.

Wow! That car is super nice and super clean! Only thing I'd change is those chrome wheel well flares.
311k and that condition is amazing. My eta is nearing that in miles, but no where near the condition of that car, that would be so cool to daily drive and experience the daily shock of others when they find out your still dd such an old/high mile car.

Agree with all the comments. I have been lying awake each night thinking that I should just buy it the next morning and decide what to do with it later. Like, store it for 12 years to then give to my now 4 year old girl.

I just started a new thread in General Conversation because of this for-sale listing. Looking at this car makes me feel worse about parting my royal blau / beige leatherette 1987 528e because I know mine could have had a lot of life in it if BMW knew as much then about rustproofing as they do today.

This note is for all the haters that don't like it when the list meanies (of which I realize I am one) gang up on people that post a car with claims of "all original" or "mint condition" when their cars don't come anywhere near close to a specimen like this one.
Anyone notice how all of us saw this car and immediately realized that this is one of the good ones? No one had anything bad to say, and we're all very picky people. The photos speak for themselves.
The fact is that quality is obvious. And photos of something that was taken care of, like this beautiful car was, is obvious to most. Kind of like a beautiful woman. It's hard to find anyone who disagrees.
In a normal economy, this car would have sold in 30 seconds. And, if I hadn't found The Time Capsule last summer, I would have bought it already.
Regards,
.steve.

All your nice comments helped with the interest on my car.
"Sale Pending" at this time.
Steve - Thank you for that detailed analysis of why the car still looks good and still running with 311k miles......90% of that is true. I enjoyed reading it.

Also as a certified eta person (owned 5), I must say this is one of the best DD high mileage eta's one will find, also at a fair price. Reminds me of my 88 eta when I first bought it. That is a lovely car. I wish you were over here... that car is too good to pass up in that condition.

Looks like a nice car, even considering the mileage. I know that one "bugaboo" with many enthusiasts is the chrome fender lips. That's probably a big turn off to a lot of folks here. You might pull them off and the car would look even better. I am assuming that given it is a Cali car, rust is not an issue. And even if there is a small color difference, it won't be that noticeable because of the crease over the wheel well if you know what I mean. Just a suggestion.

Question on ETA 528's
Posted: Jan 25, 2011 4:57 PM
by Zieg
I've owned 3 E28's. 2 purchased new 1984 533i, 86-535i, and a 1988 535is which I sold about 2 yrs ago and that I regret selling just about every day.I presently have 4 BMW's one of which is a very nice 84 633CSi. Beautiful car but does not have the handling and performance of the 535is.
My question is I know what makes 535's great but what make the M20 powered 528e's great.
I really like this car and am interested but I have never even been inside a 528e.
Thanks,
Zieg

Hey Zieg...
Way to start a religious war! Nice going, buddy!
But in all seriousness, there are some here that will say, "The only good 528e is a dead 528e" but we try to make sure they stay on their medication long enough to keep them under control.
For the rest of us, I find them to be absolute pigs if they came with an automatic transmission. I barely consider them BMWs. But with a manual transmission, they simply beg to be driven. With a better 50/50 balance than the 535, they are great fun on the track and exceptionally fun on the ice (if you're into that sort of thing). Thanks to the high torque engine, they are surprisingly good urban assault vehicles - first off the traffic light every time. And as long as you change the oil every 4k miles, you can run them up to redline all day long. In terms of creature comforts, they seem to have all the same bells and whistles as any other E28, except I don't believe they were ever shipped with heated seats (something I'm going to start looking for)...
If you can put up with changing a timing belt every 60k miles, which after a couple changes becomes a simple task, there really isn't much bad you can say about them. Unless you have tiny junk. Then all you crave is horsepower...
Hope this helps,
.steve.

I honestly don't think I want a 535i. My eta's keep me happy! And religious war it is!

The last thing I would want to do is start a war. I know Randy, the Tanned One, had an 528 and he loved it. I drove a 325es once and kept bouncing the tach off the redline.
By the way I am a New Yorker by birth but presently live in fl. so heated seats are not really a priority.
Thank you for the input. The car is pretty far away but it does look like a VERY well kept clean car especailly with that mileage. I'll have to think about it.
Tks,
Zieg

GLWS Super es are the best daily drivers I have ever had. The E28 was designed for the M20. Most E 28s are 528es

Never really cared for the chroM-Arches but I love SF E28s. They always have such nice, read unburned, paint. Any rust issues though? That's my fave color combo, too.
Sherman, If you decide you don't like it, I'll buy it in three months.

The car came with the chrome wheel trim, and I always liked them bc no other e28 had them. This made the car different from others. I think this gives the car character and I can recognize that it's my car.
There is no rust on the car. This car has always been a California car.
