Its sad but it's true. My 86 M535i is for sale.I have put 43,130 miles on it in the last 8 years of ownership It's time to move onto something different and for someone else to enjoy it as much as I did.The car is very well known in the Mye28.com community and in the Eastern United States.I have a history of repair bills dating back to May 26th,1995 from Germany. I bought the car on July 2nd 2002 when it was imported from Germany. Its been run on 93 and 94 octane gas since I have owned it.Stored during winter. The car has never broken down on me in all the trips I have taken except for one main relay blowing last year on the way to V@V. I also have the computer required to talk to the ECU if you ever have to add a cat with an O2 sensor. It has won numerous awards and was best E28 at 2006,5er Fest in South Bend Indiana. The car has original paint and I do not want to repaint the car. There are no clear coat issues with the car.

I have driven this car and worked on this car many times so let me chime in:

The electrical system is in very good shape. No weird melting or anything of the sort in the fuse box (I have seen far too many cars with messed up fuse boxes). All aftermarket equipment (stereo mostly) is cleanly installed and all functions properly.

Ted and myself replaced the oil pan last year sometime and everything on the bottom end of the engine looked great. No sludge in the oil pan, a nice brown coating on everything (which is what you want to see).

The car pulls very well. No flat spots, just pull. While I do prefer the 3.07 rear diff that came original with the car, the 3.73 that was installed did wake the car up off the line.

If any potential buyer has any questions about the car I will give you an honest unbiased opinion.

I would not hesitate to hop in and drive this car across country (well except for the thing didn't come with air conditioning and it would probably suck to drive in 100 deg temps for too long).

The person who picks this up is getting a very good car.

I would buy it in a second if I had the cash.

Sadly, no A/C is an absolute deal breaker for this Floridian, otherwise I would like to give it a home. Too many hot and humid days down here. I have always liked this M535i after seeing the car during 5erFest '03 at Boone and Ted has done much to the car over the years.

What a gorgeous M535i

Some one is going to be very happy when this rare beauty rolls into their garage! You just don't see this type of high quality car come up for sale very often. Better act quickly.

Best of luck with the sale, Ted!

Well do like Ted did, store it during the bad weather, summer in your case.

Ted:

It was fun (as usual!) seeing you and the rest of the Canadian crew at V@V this weekend!

The M535 still looks and runs great. Complementary bump for a great car and a great guy.

Dear Ted,
Best of luck with placing your lovely M535i in the hands of its next suitable steward. I've seen it a couple of times in person and just loved the purity in which it has been kept. Kudos my good friend. Best wishes and do at least hint as to what will be next. You see, I have a hunch that you're bringing in some uber rare e28 (tuner car w/forced induction, I'm hoping) from the far east now that the Canadian restrictions on these models are loosening up with the passage of time. I hope you'll be bringing it to 5erFest in August? :dunno:
Cheers,
Tim

I remember driving this car with you at the 2007 5erFest. What a great car. I wish I had the money to get back into a M535i again.

This is such a great example that will not be seen anytime soon again.

Wish you luck with the sell Ted.

You buying a Tiger?

One problem Ted has which limits his market is the model year. As an '86 it requires Federalization to import / license in the U.S. Wait till January 2011 and it's exempt from Federalization.

Very true Rich but there are ways of getting around it as we all know.I can drive the car down to the new owner and they have 7 months to store it,put AC in it etc. Nobody has come forward with an offer yet. There is a minimum that I will let the car go for as much as it breaks my heart. I know the economy sucks but there is a right buyer out there for this fine example. It will sell this year and maybe the price will go up January 1st,2011 because it will be exempt. Any offers? ;) Ted

Ted, your e28 was probably my fav at V@V, as it is every year. I love the car and wish I had the garage and cash for it.

I know what car you're lookin at replacing it with, but I will leave that as a suprise for the everyone else. ;) You will love the new ride I am sure. :D I wish I could have either one of them.

2. Diety
3. Debt
4. Divorce
5. etc..
6. another E28
7. Age

you look so happy with her:

It's a tough time to sell older pricier cars. I can't sell my G-wagen to save my life. :(
