Hi from Australia

Hi all, i'm Brad from Perth, Western Australia. Have only had this Arctic Blue E28 for a short while and i love it! It is mostly a late '82 528i but has a body kit, 3.2/3.3 litre motor with L-Jetronic and E23 733i ECU, 4hp22 4 speed auto and 3.46 non-LSD. Thus it's badged as an M533i :-)
Interior-wise it's had blue leather seats put in at some point which are in great condition, as is the rest of the interior.
Anyway, great forum with lots of info and hopefully i can add something once in a while!
Cheers
Brad

Based on the door panels and lower dash, it appears your car once had Pearl beige seats. Looks good overall. You should like it.
We do have 'one of us' in Perth, if you've seen a white 635 or 535 around. He visited with a number of us in the US (including me) a couple of years ago. Dean hasn't shown up here lately, so if you see him, tell him to check back in once in awhile.

Neat example. The interior is definately going through an identity crisis, but is nonetheless exceptionally clean. I would love to see a shot of those speakers/fan and speaker on the kick panel. The exterior looks
the ballz!
Welcome to the sandbox.

Lose the ///M badge. That is not an M-Technic body kit. It is a Pebra body kit.
Looks like a nice car, though.

Yes, i was told it originlly had beige cloth seats.
Interesting you mention Dean, i was only at the mechanic a couple of weeks ago getting the steering looked at and they gave me his email address. There aren't too many E28's around this neck of the woods.
New BM's however seem to be about 10% of the car population :-)

Well i regret mentioning them now, as the mounts are a temporary situation to get some decent speakers in there (which have a very deep basket). The right side is a fibreglass box trimmed with carpet that is molded to the footwell but it's not very nice to look at. The left side is just a number of circles of 16mm MDF on a ply base painted black/with carpet. As a first time at fibreglassing i did a couple of different versions which took so long that i gave up on form just to have function which is why the left is sooooo budget
I could get shallower components at some point but the Blau's are nice and i dont want them to go to waste
Maybe it looks like a fan because of the speakers grills ?!?

The car was first owned and modified by the head mechanic (at the time) of Auto Classic, the BMW dealership here in Perth. I think it was actually his wife's car and he did a great job with it and maintaining it to a high level.
Anyway, although it may not be accurate the badge stays as it's there. That might offend the purists but that's my view

As I said I would love to see a close up shot of the fan.
And it appears you have sacrificed your dead pedal for the sake of a speaker. I would throw some bass in the truck, components in the front and enjoy my dead pedal.
Nevertheless it's still a very pretty car.

Whatever, mate, it's your car. While you are at it, why not call it an Alpina or a Hartge or a Dinan? Hell, badge it an M1.

Thanks mate, appreciate the feedback.
Re the fan - i'm a little confused, maybe you're referring to the tweeter? They are components.
Re the foot rest, i was in two minds about removing this but never really use it.
Plus with the stereo i don't want to alter any panels or trim so door mounting the woofers is out. As they are the pods screw into the stock 6x4 mounting holes.

Ok, i've edited the first post to reflect your feedback and i appreciate your info.
You're taking the analogy too far. I didn't badge it the way it is so i'm not going to take it off either.

He wouldn't have much use for the dead pedal since it is RHD. For the most part, that foot will be on the accelerator.

Beautiful car.
Personally, I'd go for the stealth stereo, though!

Thanks mate.
I do agree, the pods are ugly but i'm hoping for it to be a short-term thing until i look at some shallow mount mids. Colour matched carpet or vinyl will help a lot as well!

Not
REALLY necessary, my friend. He's not passing it off as anything other than it is and he's very upfront about it. Since he's, what,
9,000 miles away, it's hardly likely to ever offend you in person ...

It's alright, no harm done.
The gent that put the bits together is well known in the BM community and as head mechanic of the dealership would have been doing things the right way.
This makes me rethink the general meaning of the ///M badge. Is it to related to parts available from the Motorsport division? Was or is there a catalogue of such parts for the E28?
My interest is stirred now, will have to get down and dirty and do some hunting on the skirts and front and rear valance for part numbers.
For reference, the rear bootlid spoiler is a Pfeba part # 1914099.

There was a bunch of spoilers which could be purchased from BMW dealerships. Your Pfeba bodykit are BMW parts as well.
Have a look at the spoiler FAQ. In Europe, there were different versions of M spoilers made for the E28. The M535i full bodykit, the M5 with and the M package chin spoiler without air ducts for an oil cooler.
I think that there was still another M front part available in the US, but I´m not sure.
By the way, over here, you could buy an M badge at almost any BMW dealership back in the days. That should explain the fair amount of "///M 520i" or similar Euro cars that can be spotted on pictures all over the web.
Keep up the good work!

As, I am sure, you could worldwide. There are three schools of thought:
The 'M Purists' (like my friend mooseheadm5, here) would only allow ///
M logos on cars built by BMW's M division. Even BMW has muddied that concept by building such cars as an early 318ti with an '///
M' package on it.
The opposite are folks who would slap an ///
M on a Hyundai, along with an Acura 'R' and some 'turbo' badges lifted from somewhere. They view them as mere decorations.
As in almost everything, I have a moderate view that says the ///
M is a logo signifying support for the Motorsport division. There is a separate and distinct logo for the model names including ///
M3, ///
M5, and ///
M6. I would not haphazardly put them on my car because it strongly implies that it is something it isn't. But hanging an ///
M on it doesn't bother me at all, any more than it does BMW when they sell one.

Thanks Shawn D.
Thanks Mr Krieger.
From the spoiler FAQ I believe the airdam is a Pfeba shark style.
The skirts and rear valance might require a jack and torch

One can purchase any badge for any BMW at the dealer.
The M should indeed mean that the car was graced with M-technic parts or tuning from the factory. When I was younger, I thought it would be cool to have an M on a non-M machine. Now, I believe that there is nothing wrong with hanging any M part on a car that you would like, but the badge makes it seem as though the car is being portrayed as something that it is not. Why bother? I could take a 528e and build a car that will whip my M5 all day long, but I wouldn't hang an M badge on it no matter how many M-tech parts I hung on the car. It just makes me thing of all the rice boys out there with "Type R" emblazoned all over a US market base model Honda. It is a bit disingenuous (not that you placed the M on your car.)
Cars like the 318ti M sport are not muddying the concept in my opinion. They were sent from the factory equipped with parts made especially for M-technic. They had M-tech cloth interior, M-tech suspension tuning, M-tech wheels, and M-tech aerodynamic body parts. The special M-sport cars only had a tiny little 1cm tall M on the belt molding. It was sold as a 318ti Sport, not an M318ti.
Oddly, the 850CSi had every right to an M badge, but they left it off for whatever reason.

Hi all,
Bit of an update, it has been a while and have been busy fixing various bits and pieces on the car.
Had a small hiccup when i couldn't avoid a brick on the road which dented the front right rim. Managed to find a set of 15" Basketweave rims in good condition to replace the damaged rim, and some new Bridgestone Potenza Adrenalin RE001's for the front.
Changed the oil and filter to Penrite SIN10.
Fixed the non-working interior lights.
Reconfigured the stereo and got rid of those god-awful ugly black pods.
In the middle of all this we have had our first child, a beautiful baby daughter Juliette. The bonus is that for the last couple of weeks i have been back at work so bubs and mum have been staying with the in-laws. This has given me a chance to get some sleep and do some *cough* 'housework'!
Cheers
