Is there enough room under there for that?

In an E30, with twin turbos no less:

There have been a couple 540 V8 swaps into the e28 chassis, one was done by Aaron here on the board a few years ago. He had to move the brake master cylinder forward like how it's installed on an e34 chassis, and I recall that fabricating the exhaust system took some work. So, getting the lump to fit in there has been figured out, but making all the electronics that come with the M5 engine function properly will be another job in itself.

There was a thread from a guy in Europe with that orange E28 drift car running an uncorked S62, I forget where it was posted here but there are a bunch of pics, pretty cool.

edit, here it is: http://www.mye28.com/viewtopic.php?t=59 ... sc&start=0

It started out with an M60 but it's now got an S62.

Something about breaking eggs & ommelettes...

You want to shove Bigfoot into a Nike, you got to make concessions.

Give me som e time to scan an article from a British BMW mag. M635 with an S62, complete with the traction control. Not enough details, but some decent pics.

I must say that I don't get it. That is a very expensive mill to put in a low value car. I saw an M88 in an E21 a while back. Same thing, I just shook my head. All that said, we all carry our own wallets and it is nothing that money and a little engineering can't address.

I agree. It would be a much better deal to just go with a Chevy crate motor. Heck for ~$6k you could buy an LS6 crate motor or something similar. I'm not downplaying an S62 (have lived with one now for almost 7 years, LOVE it, will never sell the E39 M5), but for a project in a 20-year old $3k car, I'd look elsewhere for an easier transplant.
