... so I can use my current filter housing on the M30B35 I bought. Yes, the engine is from an E24 and has a similar housing to the E28 one, but it has an extra web on both the oil filter housing and the block, with a corresponding gasket. I'd prefer to use my current housing, as I already have my oil temperature sender installed in it.
The reason I'm asking about the TIS is this post from Rich Euro M5 on the old board. Indeed, there is the mystery hole in the "dead" section of the block where the filter housing and block webs block it off from the rest of the oil in the housing. Why the heck is this there? The hole appears to be tapped for something like a 10x1mm machine screw.
Gasket #12 in this diagram (p/n 11421730294) is the gasket that's on the M30B35 now.
