Upgrading an M30B28?

I've got a euro 528i and it sucks because everybody else is building the B24's and M20's so that's where the support is. I'm also stuck with L-Jet instead of Motronic. I'd like to make it quicker though - the euro B28 already makes more power than the US B34, so I'm at an advantage there. Would a B35 cam or a Schick 284 give me any improvement? Could I fit a MAF to my car or get a chip somewhere? I'm really not sure where to start. I'd like to shoot for 210-ish horsepower or so. Any help would be great.

All of the same mechanical upgrades that are applied to the B34 also can be bolted onto your B28, for the most part. Everything will have to be scaled down slightly, because it will have even more effect on your B28 due to the smaller displacement.

If you can put in the b28 block b35 pistons ,then you will have 218 hp. (m535i power)
I know fore sure becouse i ceck the real oem and i compare them to see where is the diferences.
Now the question is if we can make big bores.
excuse my bad english.

If you're going to go that far, you might as well just swap the motor.

Alpina managed to get an extra 4hp from the M30B28 by using the B9 exhaust. Sadly this is NLA but any good free flowing exhaust will give you some gain (albeit small). SS headers might also help.
A hot cam will probably deliver the most gains. Which cam I couldn't say off the top of my head.
I don't believe that you can chip the ECU for these cars.
You may be able to replace the AFM with a MAF, you also could fit a larger throttle body and injectors but I don't know of anyone who has done this.
If I was looking for performance gains I'd focus on the exhaust and cam. For everything else you'll pretty much have to make your own path.

I also think you are better off starting with another block/engine. I don't think you are going to be able to bore a b28 block out enough to use a 92mm bore piston. Why so set on using the b28 block?

Megaquirt on a M30B28 might be interesting. Run wasted spark and you can ditch the distibutor. Maybe c.200 bhp with stock internals?

For those of us not familiar with your situation, would you mind explaining? Thanks!

I understand the tax reasons for keeping the 2.8 but could you not just remove the 3.5 casting from the side of another block? How closely will they check? You can still have the intake with the 2.5/2.8 which is more visable than the block casting.

Even if they check, you could cut out the 2.5/2.8, grind off the 3.5 and literally glue the 2.5/2.8 on with a good epoxy. A little body filler and some paint and it would take an X-ray to tell.

Well from what you may have read in the other post, it won't work. You'd have better luck at passing the 3.5l block off as a 2.8l block than you do of making b35 pistons work. Best of luck with your endeavors.

Why can it not be done? Racers have been known to change casting #'s to allow various parts to be used. And their tech inspections can be more strict than you realize. Good luck; why not see what your machinist recommends? And what does being in Romania have to do with anything?
