I've always kinda liked those. Almost the m5's american cousin. Which probably includes a garish interior, bad panel and trim fitting and of course corner-phobia. I'm sure its a distant, not talked about cousin...

And turbo diesels are always cool

Wow not the rear of the car flexing on the second video (before launch hehehe) pretty cool :)

Uhh... the rear isn't flexing. The whole car is tilting due to the torque reaction between the live axle and driveshaft. This can be seen on most launches of live axle cars at the dragstrip, and is why some cars are set up with asymmetric rear suspension, such as an air bag inside the right rear spring, but not the left rear spring.

Yeah thats awesome, I saw it in Diesel Power Magazine a few months ago. Thankfully its not a real Grand National, its a Regal with a GNX body kit. The best part is that the Duramax has some serious power potential with exhaust, turbo, and ecu upgrades (like 700hp and 1400ftlbs of torque). Its a perfect setup for tire shredding.

Thankfully, indeed. I'm not a huge fan of American iron, but the Grand National/GNX is one of those cars that just demands respect. Even if it was genuine, I might have given this one a pass though since it's so damn cool.

It looked as if the chassis was flexing to me...uhh. You can tell someone they are mistaken without adding the new wave "duh" to it...

Just to add, I am probably being more than a bit testy on the issue of "internet tonality" but courtesy is one of the few things we have left as a human race. I know if I was face to face with a person I wouldn't start out by saying a guttural "uhh" unless I totally disrespected them.

That thing is hillarious - and awesome for some wierd reason.

I noticed it's registered in CA. Is it smog exempt? It wouldn't make sense to me being the Regal was a gasoline-powered car (duh.). It would be nice if there was some info on the site, though.

I want to see those rear wheels/tires on the back of a TD. Think they'll fit Shawn?

I know that in most states, diesel engines don't have emissions tests, although, CA isn't most states, so I can't speak for them.

I was watching a Speed Channel show where they were asking Gale Banks why he only offers diesel turbo packages. His point was that there are 2 factors to HP in a gas turbo motor - octane of the gas and the engine's ability to hold together. In a diesel motor, there is only 1 factor - the engine's ability to hold together. Since he can't control octane, he'd rather concentrate on diesels, where he only has to worry about exploding the engine.

Modern diesels are pretty cool and we will be seeing a lot of the European diesels, now that the sulfur content in our diesel fuel is the same as theirs. My 2005.5 TDI Jetta got 45-50mpg while cruising at 75-85mph and had a lot of passing power.

Hey slave2school,

I guess you just haven't caught on to my sarcastic sense of humor -- no derision intended!

California's laws are interesting regarding engine swaps. If the engine is newer in year than the car, you can get it approved. Given the nature of modified diesels, they can probably easily bring it back to stock emissions, etc...if CA even tests that.

As for diesels and CA emissions, afaik the car has to have come with a diesel to be exempt, and even then upon ownership change the vehicle has to be inspected and/or smogged to some extent. So for example if you wanted to build a turbo bmw in California (non Dinan CARB approved), you could feasibly buy a TD, do whatever they want you to do with it in terms of inspection, then gasmotor./turbocharge it. No further inspection until you sell it...

IF it's a type that was originally available. That Buick was never offered with a diesel.

Remember, its just a regular Regal, not a real GN...it was offered with the notorious Olds 350 Diesel... :?

The Olds 350 diesel block is a serious foundation for a stroker engine when converted to gasoline.

I think you're misinterpreting the "Uhh". It's not guttural. It's apologetic, and is shorthand for, "I don't want to insult you, so please understand that while what I have to say may sound insulting, I don't mean it that way- I'm only saying it because I think you need to hear it, and I can't think of a better way to say it, so I apologize for my perceived rudeness." Also, "Umm..."

Your Boss: This idea can't be accomplished.
You: Uhh... actually I did it yesterday.
Your Boss: It'll never work.
You: Uhh... actually it's working perfectly.
Your Boss: You misspelled this word.
You: Uhh... actually that's a number.

Ron W. My boss would kick my ass down the hall if I started to correct her in that manner :) and I'd probably get charged.

Yeah I'm brainwashed by the Military. :x

Don't worry I think we are both over it, like I said in my last post on the topic :)

Actually they are a good building block for a good boat anchor, but this nor that relates to anything.

I'm typing this really slow so that you understand that I was countering what Kyle said about the diesel being notorious, as in a POS, but when converted to gasoline has the potential of being a stout ass torque monster of a small block. That is where the relativity to the subject matter came in.

There should have been a comma after "fit." Stupid Macbook Pro keyboard. I'm having a very hard time with it for some reason. It is backlit, though.
