C6 Z06?

I ran into one tonight on my way home with some groceries. It was mostly highway stuff with a few low speed runs. I didnt expect it to be so easy.
I didnt even have to downshift from fourth at around 75. Just rolled on and started walking away. We did it a few times to the same result. I'd yank him harder in third gear. As soon as it spooled up it was like I was getting bumped by a train from behind. It would just scoot ahead like that.
A little way down the road, we slowed down for a second gear shot, around 35 from a roll. That was bad. Even with the wheelspin I pulled him pretty easily. I didnt expect to keep pulling on him up to redline, but it did.
I wish I had gotten some video, as always. It was a lot of fun, and it all went down safely as usual.

Something sounds wrong. Stupid C6 driver in the wrong gear? 500 hp/500 tq in 3200 lbs. That should take care of business. I've seen them on the track and they will put football fields on nearly everything.
Have you run a 335i? I thought I remember you trouncing one. I recently got a chance, but the 335 driver didn't like slowing down (he came up fast on me on the interstate). We started at about 80 and I walked him pretty good. He didn't want to slow down after either. After getting on the brakes, I left it at about 85 trying to catch up (he blew by me when I slowed). After 5 minutes or so, he wasn't getting any closer so I slowed back down. Wanted to try him in third gear, but no go.

Are you sure it was a ZO6? I have seen them run any where from 11.7 to low 13's with a horrible driver in the 1/4, but from a roll is different. I have been in 300 rwhp cars and 400 rwhp cars and they are very different animals.

Yeah, a friend of mine has a six speed 335. I ran him a little over a month ago. That was around 16 psi, before the dyno tune. Search for 528e on youtube and there are a few vids on the first page. The dyno tune really opened up the top end. I was running around 20 psi (~220 kpa) for the Z06. And I'm pretty sure it was a Z06. It was definitely a C6, and it had what appeared to be a Z06 badge on the front fender, as well as the little flappers in the two inner exhaust outlets that would open up when he tried to get away.
At this altitude, they make about 400 rwhp and under 400 foot pounds of torque. So I've got more torque at 20 psi. Charge temps were in the 70's last night, so I was probably making some good power too. I dont know what my 528 weighs, but its probably right around 3k pounds. Its got a manual tranny, no trunk insulation, straight pipe exhaust about 135 pounds driving it. I consider the weight of the groceries negligible.
Tgeres a guy on a local forum with a Z06. I'm going to see if he can give me a few runs. Nobody on the other forum believes me either. Oh well.

Whatever it was, I mean its pretty easy to tell its a C6 corvette, and walking away from any of those is pretty impressive, z06 or not.

I'm 99% that it was a Z06. I know how I do against an LS1 or LS2. I actually ran a Camaro Z28 on the way to the grocery store, going the other direction. It was pure destruction. It was closer than that with this vette.
I know I saw a badge, and this car had butterfly valves in the inner exhaust outlets. As far as I know thats only a feature on the LS7 equipped C6.

Sounds like a Z06, and the altitude makes quite a difference but I'd be inclined to agree with Skeen that maybe the guy was in 5th or something. I've been on track riding in a C-Mod car (~350 whp/2300 lbs/slicks) that was being walked by a C6 Z06 on uphill straights, even though our corner exit speed was higher. They are pretty frighteningly fast. That said, I was impressed by how you did on the 335i so find another C6 and get us some video. And of course be careful.

C6 Z06 has split-spoke wheels. This is in contrast to the solid-spoke wheels of the standard C6 vette.

ZO6 also has enormous side gills in front of the doors and a "scoop" in front of the hood.

probably just a little hard to count the spokes on the wheel when they are spinning 35mph +
But yeah id agree with the driver skill, but non the less nice kill regaurdless.

FWIW my car would get SLAUGHTERED by a C6 Z06 Vette....Dan's car must be running some sort of JATO rockets to supplement his turbo M20...

5500 feet up here. That helps. All I'm running is about 20 psi (would be about 17.5 psi at sea level). It spikes to about 23 when the boost builds in higher gears. That might have something to do with the squirting effect the car seemed to have.
We went at it for a good five or ten minutes. We went all the way down one highway, then we got on the freeway, went through the interchange and onto another highway. The datalogs look very busy. I am certain he was racing, and I dont know why he would keep trying in a higher gear.
I cant remember the body of the car as much. I remember the exhaust flaps and badge distinctly. If it was stock, then it was a Z06. Apparently you can purchase exhausts for the base C6 with the same flappers, but they're not controlled by the ecu. These would only open when he got on the throttle. Looked computer controlled to me.
Turbo e28's are a lot of fun up here...

well, it can be that the owner was a poser and made his regular corvette look like a Z06. you know like how some people put a M3 emblem on a 318i.

I know a badge can be easily installed, but the exhaust with the butterfly valves is only stock on a Z06. There are a few places you can get that kind of exhaust for a base C6, but the flaps aren't automatically controlled.

The new LS3 C6 has a two stage exhaust as a factory option.

yeah i just watched your youtube video's and i second that... i believe as well... my uncle has a C5 ZO6 and while they're not as powerful or refined as the C6 it is the single most amazing car i've ever ridden in... of course my uncle drives like a punk teenager but oh well... lol
I want a turbo now... more than ever.

bro you must have 1 bad ass 5er to run away from a zo6, my parents have a stock c6 and thats pretty fast a zo6 rip's new assholes in almost everything
