Diamant Schwarz is a metallic - It is generally lighter, almost like a dark charcoal.

You sit much lower and further back. That gives the impression of the car being much bigger than an E28 which of course it is but not by as much as it seems. They don't suffer from front-end steering shimmys or shakes anywhere near as much as an E28 which is good. Ventilation is very poor in comparison even with working A/C. Reflection into the windscreen from the dash in sunlight is a real problem and not easily solveable. You learn to live with it. Windscreen wipers wipe a smaller area and are less effective than E28 wipers. Headroom is much tighter. If you're brushing the rood lining in an E28 you can safely forget about an E24. Gear lever is an unusual distance away from the driver. Unless you have very long arms, you will probably find yourself sitting just a fraction too close to the steering wheel and pedals in order to not have to be reaching for the gear lever. Not an issue in an auto of course (which most of them are) but a bit weird in a manual. I had to fit a short shift kit to fix this and be able to drive it comfortably.

I can't really comment on that because my E24 is an M635CSi while the E28 is a lowly M535i so obviously the E24 shits all over the E28 in the handling and acceleration departments quite comfortably.

I don't get it ... aren't they the same engine, similar level of suspension tweeks or do you mean you have the M6 (twin cam 6) compared to the regular engine M535i? Even then the 2 should have similar suspension, no?

The M635CSi is the M6 - it is the Euro-spec version with the M88/3 engine. They never bothered to change the naming convention to M6 in Europe. The E28 M535i, as you know, is basically a badge and body-kit (with some suspension mods) on a bog-standard 535i with the M30B34 engine.

(edit to add "E28" just in case anyone thinks I might be referring to the E12)

wow ... I like how you broke it down, yet ended with a cryptic note. I figured all the same as you responded but the e24 is on of the few big cars that I could walk around and keep admiring. I still love my e28 but now that there are so few e24's on the road down here in Oz I am starting to feel an urge to get find before they become stratosphere in price.

In saying that my e28 does most everything I need so well and cost me very little. I guess time will tell. thanks for responding

There was a guy with a nice-looking E24 that left a note on my dash the other day, wondering if I wanted to buy it (for $8), and also if I know of any good BMW mechanics in the area (which I thought was funny to put both of on the same not).

That E23 I just bought is Anthracite grey | Anthrazitgrau | #055.

Did all the BMWS come with clearcoat paint? Some almost look like they're not on those pics...
