It was definitely "not a race" in the traditional heads up way.

On my way home from work tonight I ended up directly behind a 335ci at a stop sign. He certainly was going to show the old BMW guy how much better his new car is as he took off from the stop sign rather hard.

Since I am for the most part a law abiding citizen I did not blow through the stop sign, therefore no race.

I did take off really hard after a super quick almost stop however and was able to keep the gap from growing beyond about 6 car lengths until we had to back off due to traffic. After my quick stop he already had most of that, so I was surprised at how well I fared.

All in all we ran up to about 70. I am certain I couldn't have pulled on him based on what I saw but was pleased nonetheless. Compared to a stock 535is it was quite an improvement.

I also realized that if I continue driving like I did today on the street I will shortly be in jail. Houston Raceway Park has street drags on Fridays so I'll most likely hit that up soon just to get an idea of how it runs.

335i runs 13.50 @ 105. It's a good benchmark. The disease has hit you hard already!

Todd, I've had the disease since I was 16. I was that kid in school no one would ride with twice. Scared the crap out of everyone who rode with me. Except Mom. I was always good to her.

I've had a few quick cars and a couple that were all top end (145 mph running with a 911 up I 35 mid nineties). This is really the first car I've had that has been modified to have so much more potential. I plan on discovering more of it. Probably not all of it, but definitely more of it.

If we go back to beginning of all this, circa 1999-2000ish, I was toying with the idea of a turbo 535i (my euro at the time). I had the opportunity to look at a turbo 535 while buying parts from Bavarian Imports on Howell Mill in Atlanta. Mike, the owner, built one for himself a long long time ago.

Well since my euro car had the "Green" motor I figured it was a perfect candidate for a turbo. I immediately started dreaming up crazy schemes about building the exhaust manifold, finding the perfect turbo, figuring out where to install an intercooler, etc. I figured at that time that I would like to make 400hp or better.

Sadly, I didn't have my sh*t together enough in my personal life to ever start the project. Alcoholism can do that to you.

Fast forward to this past summer when I had to redo my head. I decided that since I was in there I would get it ready for a turbo. At that time I was still set on building my own system. Kyle had even found me a salvage manifold I was going to use to start the project. One day I called up Todd to get his advice about turbo's and what not. We talked a little about what I wanted, got a parts list and I ordered a few items from him.

Well to keep this story from spiraling into a novel I'll give you the tidy version. Once I had placed the order I started making a parts list to fill in order to complete my build. After this and a couple of more calls to Todd I just went ahead and ordered the whole S1 kit. I realized I do not have the time available to do a complete fabrication.

Also one of my very good friends happens to rep Haltech standalone ECU's and I happened to give him a van he needed last year with the agreement he would pay me as he could. So in effect, I have a free E11 V2 coming to me soon.

So the reality is that I have been on the intercooled standalone path from the get go.(stage III)

But I must admit, the sickness seems to have accelerated it's infestation here lately. I blame ya'll for this.

One word of warning. Todd is an excellent salesman. He will blundgeon your wallet with common sense and you will be powerless to stop the impending flood of thoughts that run through your head. . That being said he delivered on everything he claimed he would.

It's words like these that has coaxed me into the elaborate system of parts on my living room floor from a simple horsepower itch, all the while my e28 has no idea...
