turbo exhaust

im interested in collecting parts for a future turbo upgrade on my 87 is.will a diesel manifold work ?tryin to do this cheap and effective.

By a diesel manifold, do you mean a 524td manifold? If so, it will work on an M20 but not an M30 which I take (from the text in your post and signature) you have.

You can, but your pretty much are stuck with the antiquated k27 turbo.

Turbo + really low budget do not go very well together. By the time you get it up and running properly and reliably, you'll likely have spent more than you intended, have a system consisting of cobbled together used parts that could fail whenever, and could've gotten a brand new TCD kit for just a bit more.
Some people have had more luck that others going the route you're intending, but you better thoroughly understand everything you're doing before you start.
