Hey I own a 1986 735i with the m30 engine.. But my throttle reponse isnt that good. Every other car I ride in the throttle reponse is crisp.. Is there a way I can really sharpen up my throttle response? The throttle response is only slow between 800 and 2000rpm..
PS: I read a while back that on the m30 engines the afm makes the throttle reponse slow, is this true??

An E23 isn't going to be a rocket off the line, especially if it's an auto. But if it has a flat spot just off idle, it could be the AFM. Throw a different one in there or rebuild the one you have. The problem is a groove gets worn in the carbon on the circuit board. There are a couple of different fixes, some bend the arm just a little in or out so it's riding on a different spot, I slot the screwholes a touch to do the same thing. It doesn't take much, say maybe .010 or .020" Just enough so the wiper is touching a different spot.

There could be other causes too, a somewhat plugged cat, injector problems, tired engine and more.
