Dash kick panel screw size

Post by r4rabbitx »

What's the screw size used to mount the driver's side under dash kick panel? I took them out when I removed my broken one and then proceeded to lose them all

Good luck finding them anywhere besides the dealer, especially in black, but they would appear to be a 4.2MM screw. Realoem says they're a fillister head, but they're not. Not positive is it's a oval head or a truss head, but not a fillister head. There may, often, but not necessarily, be an imperial numeric "close enough" match. Trial and error. Ace Hardware, and probably True Value, are now stocking some black trim screws. Exact, probably not. Close enough, maybe. And all that is assuming you have correct, original, kept nuts. I know I didn't and swear I had at least a couple of different sizes.

I don't know if they're original but the screws on my car also have cup washers, like this:

Even if they aren't original I think they're a good idea, to keep the screws from pulling through the panel.

Those are called "finishing washers" and a nice classy look, although think BMW had stopped using them by the E28 era. They were used with either flathead or oval head screws.

Belmetric caries 4.2mm oval head screws in a few lengths. They're black zinc oxide which is close enough:
