FS: '85 535i with tons of goodies

Post by Bonsaibacker »

Selling my 85 535i and parts
$12,500
Bronzit Beige
5 speed
235K miles?

Issues-
Cruise control does not work. Has recently, but haven’t trouble shot
AC does not work
Cannot lock with driver’s door- must use trunk

Fun to drive and in good shape.
Perfect- no. Worry free- until something pops up, but I’d drive cross country (but without AC!). Worthy of polishing- YES! A great car that needs someone to take it to the next level or enjoy it now.

I bought it from another forum member in 2018 out of Atlanta. He owned it for 15 years- purchased from another forum member in California. Receipts dating back to 2001. I have no other knowledge of its ownership. Never wrecked and always loved.

This is not an original untouched specimen. I showed this car love by swapping in performance parts and unique bits. The car is a fun collection of desirable BMW pieces- the description will confirm. Best guess on mileage is 235K. I bought with 215K. Not a daily driver (could be as it has never abandoned me, I just never used it that way) but it has attended the Vintage in 2019, 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024 as well as several other trips, causing the mileage to add up. Starts up every time with no complaining.
Loves mountain driving- like riding on rails.
Located in Jacksonville Florida and listing with a ton of parts.

No, I will not sell a part separately- well maybe I will, but not a $5 piece. Not looking to spend a lot of time packing and shipping- done parting cars and selling pieces.

Exterior-
Paint- 7/10. Clear coat deteriorated in spots. Had a respray on the trunk and right rear qp. Has a dent on the driver’s door (the size of a quarter). Developing some bumps around the sunroof. Only rust is where paint has chipped and surface rust on the underside of the hood (I only mention this due to semantics- it isn’t “rust free” but damn close). ZERO terminal, structural or worrisome rust!
Cleaned up surface rust under the trunk gasket. Gasket is newish but has come unglued in a couple of spots.
Found the plug in the rear passenger foot well rusted through- treated and replaced. Also had to clean the accelerator pedal mount as it had rust too. Discovered these when I replaced the carpet.
Euro bumpers- rear is mounted, front is not (rubber and mounting pieces included). Front bumper has some rust holes but the set has been treated with POR and painted black.
Early valance- fit is tight. I have the covers for the valance, just not mounted as fogs need some assistant to fit.
Euro headlights with yellow brights.
M5 Taillights (legit shadowline)
Glass sunroof (legit BMW with interior cloth slide cover)
Windows are tinted with high quality tint- professionally done.
Wheels- 16" staggered Hartge with new Hankook tires (maybe 1,500 miles)
Nose bra
Pfeba early rear spoiler- has side clips but no mounting screws- double sided tape. Can be easily removed with not sign of mounting.

Interior-
Black
M535i manual sport seats. Worn but worth the effort to restore. The previous driver must have been a heavy fella as there is some play. The passenger seat has an E30 back on it so that I can fold it up but I have the original E28 back as well. Wires tucked under the e brake console for electric seat controls.
Headliner has stains (the usual) but no tears or rips.
M Tech 1 steering wheel. Shows wear but no tears or rips- perfect for a driver’s car.
Dash carpet covers a couple of cracks.
German language check panel
Rear retractable sunshade (Japanese option)
Instrument cluster functions: Speedometer is accurate and odometer works. Has a Euro green/red tach gauge with no fuel economy set up. Deleted the battery with Ivo’s battery less SI board fix. Euro gas gauge. The temp gauge does not work- installed a digital temp readout where the rear defrost button was.
USB charging port where the cigarette lighter was.
Pulled ashtray and replaced with E30 storage pocket- it’s cute.
Radio is a cheap Blaupunkt bluetooth Walmart special.
All windows and sunroof work.
Windows have been wired to always “hot”. Kill switch is inoperable.
Complete M5 tool kit
Trunk lid liner is eBay black aftermarket (plastic core).
Rear strut tower brace- Schmiedmann
No spare or jack/jacking tools

Engine/Engine bay-
Original M30- strong with Conforti chip
7 series hood struts allowing for much farther opening
Holy Grail upgraded fuse box
Battery is 1.5 years old.
Bored throttle body (+3mm)
Silicone vacuum hoses
Fresh power steering filter
New hood and scoops insulation
Vintage tower strut bar (cannot remember brand)
C101 connection was loose so I made a bridge that can be removed or opened to test wires and connections.
Battery kill switch- there is a drain somewhere!

Drive line
Original G265/6 transmission
3.46 LSD

Other "Improvements"
Clutch bracket reenforcement
Improved clutch spring
Steering box mount reenforcement
Sway bar reenforcement kit
Big brake upgrade with stainless steel lines- E34 M5 font calipers, E34 540i rears
Dinan springs
Bilstein sport shocks- new 5K miles ago
ST 3 hole 22mm front adjustable sway bar
Racing dynamics 16mm rear adjustable sway bar
Billy boat cat back exhaust (black tips)
Poly rear subframe mounts (recently installed)
Replaced all front suspension rubber within the last 10K miles
Car cover in great condition

Front and rear windshield shadowline aluminum trim- missing left rear and front right corners.

Pair of axles in great shape.

I have seen this car in person many times and know the owner is extremely honest, very fastidious with his car and extra parts that he has....it is a TON of good, hard to find items that he is including that honestly make this a smoking good deal.

Anyone looking for an extremely solid e28 as a very well sorted basis  - this is your deal.

I have owned and redone three e28s (I am on my third now), and have gotten a bunch of great extras from him over the last couple of years - and they are always great!

Small money for the car and all the parts that come with it. A handful of the parts are worth 1/2 the ask price!
