Re: Stolen E28 M5
It turns out that their house was broken into and the thieves grabbed spare keys then came back later and were able to unlock, start, and drive the car away.
EVERYONE Keep your spare keys in a safe place, not laying on the top of kitchen counter etc!!!

my worst fear. i have purposely left my keys in a separate location for many years. glad the M5 was recovered with minimal incident.

That update is about as good as it can get! I hope the rest of the burglary wasn't much worse.
I keep the keys I'm not using in my gun safe. No, I obviously don't think it's impossible for any of the cars to be stolen that way, but it reduces the likelihood.
A friend's boyfriend once called me "paranoid" because I said his practice of leaving keys in a tray next to a glass door was an invitation to a stolen car.austin8753 wrote: May 01, 2025 5:03 PM my worst fear. i have purposely left my keys in a separate location for many years.

it's definitely an invitation. you might as well smile and wave at the thief!! of course, not having easily accessible keys won't stop a determined individual, but i've never understood making it easy for them either.Shawn D. wrote: May 03, 2025 10:35 AM That update is about as good as it can get! I replied to one of the FB posts on it that my 308 got stolen (in Seattle) a number of years ago. Thankfully it turned up a few days later left in a neighborhood. They had just taken it joy riding.
I'm glad you got it back. I have a few spare pieces. Let me know what you need.

i have one of these on the pedals ....https://bullock.eu/en/prodotti/bullock- ... nsmission/ and one of these one the steering wheel https://disklokuk.co.uk/product-category/disklok/ plus a hidden cut out switch
Re: Stolen E28 M5 RECOVERED
Seems like the built-in security code feature would deter most people. I'll be setting it when parking in Seattle going forward.
Re: Stolen E28 M5 RECOVERED
I was thinking a hidden kill switch for the main relay. If they get in the car will crank but won’t start ( this is actually what the “code” lock does) you don’t have to remember the code and it won’t flash at them telling them what is going on either.
