Rear Bumper Mount Rust Repair - Remove Tank?

Hi everyone.

I am currently fixing some rust issues on my car. My current area of work are the rear bumper mounts on the rear fender. I am now doing the drivers side (see photo) but other side is next.

I do have to cut into the trunk slightly and then weld there of course. Before I am doing the other side I am wondering if I should remove the charcoal fuel vapour thing that sits in the trunk on the right side, and maybe even the tank?!

Am I being overly cautious or better be save then sorry and remove both before adding sparks in that area, what do you think?

They're both easy enough to remove and replace, and if you've never replaced any of the fuel or vapor lines, they're likely due anyhow.

It’s not worth the risk. Most of these tanks likely have some sort of Vapor leakage if you haven’t done the hoses, or the seam is rusted and seeping. It adds to the job, but makes your access better and you won’t be welding in fear.
