OEM Roof rack/Cross bars.
OEM Roof rack/Cross bars.
Is there an actual bmw roof rack-Cross bars for the e28? I know there are aftermarket cross bars from a few different companies available. I’d like to find oem bars If they exist. does anyone have a part number? Much thanks in advance.
Re: OEM Roof rack/Cross bars.
Yes there is. You can see them on Realoem under “accessories”. 82129413110 . There’s also a BMW bike support that attaches to the bars. Shown on Realoem as well if you’re interested in that.
edit- not sure why it’s automatically adding all the telephone url stuff. New glitch I guess.

Thank you. I found one not far from me via a part number search, hopefully I can make a deal for it.

The gentleman who has the one I found is unwilling to separate it from the ski and bicycle attachments which I don’t need. If anyone has any leads oem rack they wish to sell please get in touch.

As rare as they are you might consider the package if it's not terribly expensive, and then trying to sell off the parts you don't need.328dabi wrote: Mar 28, 2025 7:55 PM The gentleman who has the one I found is unwilling to separate it from the ski and bicycle attachments which I don’t need. Looks like that’s what I will be doing. So I will be posting the oem ski rack attachment and oem bike attachment on here once it all arrives.
Re: OEM Roof rack/Cross bars.
I did end up buying the rack I found. Paid more money than I would have liked to, but given the rarity, I can’t complain. I will be getting the oem ski and bike attachments with it. So if anyone here is interested in either let me know. I’ll post both with pics in the parts for sale section when it all arrives.

Re: OEM Roof rack/Cross bars.
I'll post a warning about using a roof rack...I have an aftermarket one that's similar to the OEM one in your picture (I don't know the brand, it came with the car when I bought it.) It clamps to the roof rails on the car in the same fashion.
Anyway, I used to have a habit of pulling into the garage before the overhead door was 100% open, until one day I was using the roof rack to carry some musical equipment and I forgot there was a bass drum strapped on it. I hit the overhead door with the drum, and it ripped the chrome strips off the roof rails and put some nasty scratches in the paint. It made a hell of a noise, too. Fortunately the drum only suffered some minor scratches.
So, the moral of the story is to be mindful of low clearances when you're using the rack to haul stuff.
I've seen videos of people forgetting they have a bicycle on the roof when they pull into the garage, that doesn't turn out very well either.

I’ll be using it for a kayak once or twice this year. Normally take the 328d or civic. But would like to have the option to use the 524td.
im restoring it, and in the process trying to find as many oem period correct accessories. I’ve installed oem BBs Mahle wheels, a sport steering wheel and have an oem early Decklid spoiler (not m tech) which I need to install. Looking for other cool items like a reserve fuel tank for the spare tire well in better condition. Than the one I have and other misc items I’m missing like the white glove box flashlight, oem grey floor mats (drivers mat is missing in my set). Trying to have this car ready by mid-late summer so to bring it to a bmw cca or other gatherings and events as it’s a 1 of 1 1984 my car. The first U.S. spec 524td.

Re: OEM Roof rack/Cross bars.
Glad to see you found your rack. If you want the glovebox flashlight, check out the link below. I purchased one from the OP several years ago. He hasn’t been around here in years, but his website is in his signature. You’ll find the flashlights in the dropdown menu under accessories.
