Years ago I rebuilt the 389ci V8 in my 1961 Pontiac. I was working on it at my friend's shop on his farm. We got the engine pulled with a hoist, then hauled it out in the bucket of his front end loader to my car, I was going to put it in the trunk and take it to the machine shop. I was opening the trunk and moving things around to make space, when I turned around and my friend had picked the engine up all by himself. He carried it over to the car and dropped it in the trunk. I had stripped it down to the short block, but it still had to weigh well over 300 pounds.
Never underestimate the strength of a farmer.

They may not look imposing but they're used to moving heavy stuff around all day every day.

I lifted a bare M30 block into the trunk of probably an E21, maybe a Bav, much to the surprise of the machinist, but no way could I do that today.
When I bought my first BMW, a Bavaria, a friend with a pickup and rented trailer, and the seller of the basket case Bav, picked up the engine/tranny assy and loaded it into the back of the pickup. That was probably in the 450-500 range. Myself? Ha! I did lift a complete aircooled VW engine off the workbench one time, but while I could carry it around I couldn't bend over with it to set it down. So back on the workbench it went. Probably around 240.

I loaded a Subaru EJ25 longblock into the back of a car at the U-pull yard on my own, probably a pretty typical sight around there with the way those engines like to pop lol.
