I've shipped a few cylinder heads in hard sided luggage. Sounds crazy, but it works. Goodwill used hard case luggage that'll accommodate the head at an angle, corner to corner. Also, a goodwill heavyy blanket to wrap it in. Close it all up, tape the circumference to ensure it won't open. Nicer if the luggage has wheels to pull it, but just a handle works well. Never had a complaint or damages. Easier than building a crate...

Let me explore my options in terms of packaging and cost. Do you need it sooner than later or do we have some time?

I do the same thing. Have three M20B25 heads currently in stock. Two trannies, two short blocks.
What would be super cool is if someone from CA is coming to the aforementioned meet in Durango this August. Where in CA does this thing need to get to?

if @lateforlunch decides to pass, I'd be interested. Would involve shipping to New Jersey though. Mine has over 200k and a slight coolant going away problem that I have never been able to entirely track down. Not sure if its the head or the head gasket that I know was leaking externally at one point but if I have to crack this thing open I'd like as many parts available as possible.
