E28 Hard Start Fuel Injector issues/questions

Post by Rockabilly Rebel »

Hi guys,
I have a 1988 535i E28 that I haven't driven very much because it never ran well enough. Basically, it would need 4-5 tries before it would fire up and sounded like it had a misfire.
After lots of other interventions, I removed the yellow Bosch for Ford engine injectors with flow 270cc at 14.5ohms (1 was always open). Their tip is square cut as opposed to cone shaped. The suggested injector is a Bosch 372 (300cc at 15.95 ohms) with square tip. I bought them, installed them, car starts great now. Issue: They don't fit right: they don't snug into the manifold or fuel rail properly. None of the C clips fit the top injector/fuel rail properly and the bottom isn't 'in' the manifold far enough . I looked at the shape of the manifold and it seemed more cone-like but at the time I didn't really take full notice of its exact shape because I thought everything would fit right. Is it possible that my manifold and fuelrail setup requires the fatter, cone-shaped tip of the 714 injectors? Thanks for any help.

Til mid 86 or something they came with -203s. I like the 714s better, I didn't have the same problem with them getting dirty and leaking like the 203s did. I believe they're listed as interchangeable but with slightly different flow rates. I guess precision in the 80s wasn't that close compared to carbs which were sill common. 714s have about a 3.5% greater rated flow rate.
