wtb: under hood rubber vent covers

Post by hubble1953 »

I have an 1987 535is and need the rubber vent covers that fit on the inside of the hood right under the black plastic screens that are on top of the hood. Anyone parting an e28?
thanks,

These are available new right now. Paid $75 each on FCP a couple months ago.

Thanks for the reply; was looking at the new ones; just don't want to spend that much money on
hood covers:). Some ok used ones is what I need. I can clean them up pretty good and it will work.
thanks again,

They age well on cars with the complete fiberglass underhood cover. Mostly being 528e's. M30s with the foam glued to the hood, much, much, less so.

So if you're in a yard, see an eta and think nothing fits, take a peek.

I just put in this weather stripping to test results, see if it reduces engine bay smell when the fresh air ventilation is open.  If this this improves the situation, I want to put in something that looks better than my leftover weather stripping... any suggestions?  At a minimum, I will buy some black weatherstripping and trim/fit it properly

I drove it and get exhaust smell blowing in when I am at a stop, idling. Then when I drive it goes away.  It is happens with both the heater blower and the fresh air blower, but much worse with fresh air blower.  Is it pulling exhaust from the the engine bay or outside from other cars?  Smell more like my exhaust, being the inefficient old car at the stop light, as it is.

I appreciate any suggestions on how to get fresh air from the hood vent connection, at least.

You probably have an exhaust leak under the car.

Thanks. Any suggestions on how to find that or fix it?  Perhaps I need an entire exhaust replacement. Or?

Heater and fresh air use the same blower. It's A/C that uses a different one, inside down by your knee.

The amount of odor you can get from a small exhaust leak you can't even hear is impressive. Particularly check the ex manifold to downpipe connection. At a cold start, cold, feel with your hand for that brief period of time before it becomes much too warm.
