I swapped out my driver<-->passenger seat bottoms (drivers side was compress due to wear). After reassembly, the seatback pivots about 2 inches. The seatback springs forward (about 2"), but with any pressure (eg me sitting in seat, leaning back), the seatback pivots rear-ward.
What did I do wrong in reassembling the seats? Is there supposed to be a spring or something which keeps the seatback stable?

btw: '85 535i USA, comfort manual seats.

seatback engages with gearing for movement in the after early release 85s that have powered seats. I don't know about the manual seats. Maybe looking at realoem will give you some idea of how the parts go together in the manual seats.
