Hey, Im helping a friend find a home for his car. He has owned it for 7 years and overall taken good care of it... until the timing belt snapped.

General Stats:
-225k
-Auto
-Cirrusblau paint, good condition other than paint on trunk fading
-Mtech rear spoiler
-A/C & all interior locks, switches, etc function as they should
-Power window & Sunroof function
-Uncracked Dash
-New Shocks
-Newer BBS replica wheels and newer tires
-Leather is a little dried up inside, but overall good interior

*** I am tempted to help him fix it and resell, because I have a WOT-tech 885 cylinderhead with 272 cam and new rockers, the 1.3 motronic wiring harness, 525 ecu and almost everything to get this into a proper SuperEta conversion, but he just wants to move on. I can fix it myself and re-sell, but have enough headaches of my own. Will sell the parts separately for $2k. I figure the car is worth about $6k if all the work is done***

I would suggest some very detailed pictures. Potential buyers should seek PPI before deposit or purchase.

I agree, and I keep bugging him to send me more pics, but so far Ive gotten two more with a message saying "its dirty". *shrug*

I also got some PMs about selling some parts... this isnt a part out, buy the whole car. Please remember Im helping a friend

I agree. Don't part it out. Looks like it can be saved with a simple engine swap.

when M20 belts go, usually its the head thats toast, sometimes the pistons dont survive then it becomes a big headache... again with all the parts I have, I wonder if I should just try to fix it myself and sell, but I dont know that the M20 powered E28 gets anywhere near the same respect and love that the M30 cars do

If he is claiming an uncracked dash then a potential buyer should want to see what's under the dash cap. It's unlikely that it's crack free, although certainly possible. Looks like a decent car after a swap. Might as well do a 5 speed swap as well

like I said, I have everything to make this an awesome car... I have a G260 also but Im pretty sure the driveshaft on a E28 is different than the E30 shaft I have

I daily an E30, and have a Datsun Roadster thats been on jackstands for 6+ months now... no time or space. Ive been trying to convince a wrench friend to help. Just dont know that it will be worth $5k+ after all the work...

Will it? Are there buyers for a manual swapped 528e that has a "Stroker Performance M20"

What year is it? If not an 88 the 885 head will not help much since it would lower the compression. Need to change the pistons.

Its an 88... I should update the title. With the 885 head (which has some port work, brand new rockers and a 272 cam) it will be a noticeable improvement. No piston change needed, but everyone here knows that

$2500 for an auto 528e with a snapped timing belt is probably asking too much, especially with bad clear coat and cracked dash. The claim that it's well cared for until the timing belt snapped is questionable if he allowed the t-belt to go...it's a basic and known maintenance item on m20 engines. I also see aftermarket wheels with stretched tires that indicate money may have been spent on the wrong things, focussing on making this car "look good" rather than being mechanically sorted. Detailed photos and some more specifics on what's been done to the car in the last few years are necessary to help potential buyers see the value...while the car might be "worth about $6k if all the work is done," you're looking at ~4k of parts and work right now based on what's known (engine, transmission, and some properly-fitting wheels/tires).

Im just trying to help a friend sell his car. If he was an enthusiast like myself and likely most of the people here, this is the time to upgrade the head, but he isnt so thats why we're where we are...

I can pass along serious folks but dont really need to justify HIS price. Im sure he would take less money if someone were to go see it in person and make him an offer

This wasn't just a warning. I've seen the car, bad repaint, issues with trying to open the hood (almost impossible), drivers door has been pushed or bumped into, leather is nice and crunchy.

I couldn't verify, but the seller did mention receipts to H&Rs with Bilsteins, rebuilt trans at $1800.

I was considering the car before I was able to see it. I didn't pursue it since I didn't know what was my best OBO based on the amount of work needed.

Sorry OP, nothing against you or the seller, just don't want a fellow member getting stuck or missinfomred.

Well, even if you pick the wrong friends (letting an M20 timing belt go is just criminal), at least you have FANTASTIC taste in cars.

Someday I will have a Datsun Roadster or two in my garage!
