E12 - BMW 530 MLE Being Restore in South Africa

It’s a cool story and effort but like many of the articles on that bmwblog site, it’s filled with generalizations and statements that are represented as fact.
These were not lost to history and in fact there are some known on the e12 forum that are still protected and cherished
I don’t know that I would put it on a pedestal as the first M car or M5. Bmw Motorsport in Germany was modifying E12’s for clients back to ‘75 or so.
BMW SA operated as its own separate entity with knock down kit cars and lots of other wonderful stuff not seen even in Germany. Like the M powered automatic E23, the M30 powered E30, etc. Still a cool car but when I refer to the production of the E12 M535i, I quote the 1410 number, not the higher number that includes SA cars such as the ones with E28 interiors.
I do plan to watch the video and monitor the progress. Also if bmw is going to bask in the nostalgia of the E12, how about producing some replacement parts and not running Mobile Tradition as a fucking profit center with multiple price increases per year, accelerated when parts counts on hand dip below 100. Thieves and opportunist marketers, not true supporters of the marque.
