For Sale – 1985 535i Euro (Germany) delivery. Sold
Located in Golden, Colorado

Diamantschwarz-metallic with Black Leather interior, AC, Limited Slip, Oil Cooler, roll up windows, roll up sun roof, and factory stereo tape player, 225K miles, runs and drives great. Fog lights, city lights on low beams.
Manual transmission, original Getrag 265 5-speed OD, shifts nice (stock shifter).

Second owner from new and I have the original sale, import documents, owner’s manual and radio manual.
I have only owned it for a short while, purchased in July 2015. So that would be 30 years with the first owner.
Has B-pillar import VIN tag as needed now for purchasing euro specific parts.

History – Car purchased from Germany in 1985, took over a year to deliver the car with shipping, customs and DOT mods. Mods included marker lights and a catalytic converter. Car was imported through SF and Village Motors did the DOT mods. Car lived in California for most all of 220k miles till 2005, spent 1-2 years in Florida, and then 2008 till now in Colorado based on receipts. 2013 till this summer it was mostly un-driven.

Block has an ’85 casting mark and 346 E B stamped on it is so the block is probably original, head is an AMC so was probably replaced at some point. The engine runs strong and has not used any oil after 1k miles.

The body has no rust, but has lots of minor dings, scratches, and the clear coats it peeling of the trunk and roof. The tip of the right front corner of the fender is pushed in. I have a perfect replacement fender and is included. The car really needs a respray to be great.

Tail lights are US spec, but have the fogs populated and functional.

Interior is decent, leather is all good accept the driver seat… split in the seat bottom and the cushion is thin. The dash was perfect when I purchased the car in July, but has since cracked.

New parts: drive shaft, center bearing, Guibo, Upper control arms (TRW), transmission mounts, muffler. Drives and shift nice, easily could do a long trip.

I have been driving the car and enjoying it, but my other cars are being neglected and it is time for this car to move on to someone that can really do it justice.

Update
Clear title now in my name, so I guess it is no longer a one owner car, clarified above.
Added a couple of better pictures of the wheel well in the trunk.
Has the big tool kit and is complete accept for the pliers. Does not have the electric window tools because it does not have electric windows.
Suspension: rear - stock springs with sport Bilsteins, front - stock springs with 2 coils removed, not sure on the shocks, but probably stock.

Excellent, another source of information relating to the Gray Market. Based on the listed price, including all the extras shown on the receipt and using 2.75 DEM::USD the selling price of this fine ride was $19,475. It does not have a few options the US cars had but the US car sold for $30,760 in 1985. BMW was putting it to the US buyer as were the other German manufacturers. Add to this the cost of transport and conversion and you are still saving a few grand buying a Gray Market car. Plus it looks cool.

From the paper work:
Shipping - $524
Customs and import tax - $1452
EPA and DOT modifications - $3650

= $5626 + whatever other payoffs were needed.

There are more receipts and documents included, there are others in German, and I don't know if they extra costs for the import.
Some of the DOT modifications mentioned in official pictures were never done... or were replaced after delivery.

The family had a friend in Germany working the deal over there, got the VAT to 7% instead of 14% and had connections with customs/inspections. They also purchased a 325i cab euro at the same time. Correspondence is included.

Just so you know, this car wouldn't have had the VIN on the block. The first set of numbers are just the engine serial number, the second set of numbers would be "34(liters) 6(Cylinders) * *"
The first * designates whether it is a green or dirty motor- K for green low compression engine, E for dirty motor. The second * is a check digit, no factor.

Thanks Buzzbomb...
The numbers on the bloc are 41893707 346E B.
So the block is probably original.

Thought I had a buyer for this, but he has not come up with the money so it is back for sale.
I think I replied to everyone that expressed interest before.
PM me if you are interested or still interested.

How about you DID have a buyer for this, but YOU refunded his paypal and told him you got a higher offer. You also dicked him around and said you didn't have the title or paperwork in your name. Buyers beware.

Not sure who your are, but the buyer never sent me any money.

Yea, I f-ed up and signed the title into my name months ago and had to finish up getting the title transfered. Done now. Been done since last week.

If he really wants the car he should buy it, I will honor our deal. Been waiting for days for him..... how long am I suppose to wait?

First, Golden rocks. My wife is from Golden. She grew up on Goldenvue drive. The Golden's lived across the street from her. I'm not kidding.

Second, I'm confused by this "One owner from new..." and "head is an AMC so was probably replaced at some point". If it were a one owner car, you'd be that owner and thus you'd know if the head had been replaced or not. These statements seem to be in conflict. Is this a one owner car, or not?

Third, great pics, except the ones showing the interior, trunk, & top of engine.

GLWS.

Agreed! Had an amazing time at the ace-hi tavern and walking around. I'm tempted to buy this car just for the return visit and drive home (after I ski of course) but it's not in the cards right now. I think he is the 2nd owner, that's what I gathered anyway.

Really cool car, I'm sure somebody will enjoy it. GLWS

Yes, I am the second owner. Cleared this up, sorry for the confussion.
I can try to take better pictures of the interior and top of the motor and add them this weekend.

Golden is great, definitely more of a hot rod town. First Saturday of every month is a car cruise with 100s of 1930-current hot rods, mostly American. Also hosts the parties for the Mopar Mile High Nationals down town, lots of car shows during the year. My BMWs don't fit in, but I go anyway and get lots of attention.

The car does look good in these pics. It is still wet from washing in these pics. Having taken a look at this car when it was for sale in July, I believe the seller is being a little modest on the amount of small repairs that he has done to this car in the short time that he has owned it. https://goo.gl/photos/U9hNVdkNgbM9aSwc7

Looks way better now than it did then.
