I know that I'm about to get a hard time, but how about a Honda K swap for the Datsun?  Small, light, reasonable power (sky's the limit with FI), known platform, lots of aftermarket/swap support, etc...

Not 100% sure but height may be a big issue. Can be sorted with dry sump etc but the K is a relatively tall engine.

Today and yesterday was "get the interior cleared out so that all the stuff for plating and powder coating can get sent off before I leave for 2 weeks" day.

Plus a little get-together at the shop.

Image

Took all the fasteners from both cars and got them prepped for plating. Most of the interior stuff will be clear zinc. The rest will be yellow.

This stuff goes to powder coating. Various colors.

Didn't remember I had this! Chrome is a bit rough, but it matches the patina of the car. Woot.

This is the cover from the other engine. Bitch to get off, but did it. Cleaned up nice and is in great shape. I'll powder coat it aluminum.

Pretty sweet condition. I'm going to transplant modern electronics into it. Because Bluetooth.

New seat covers inbound. I was going to disassemble them today so I could powdercoat the frame. But they're not as rusty as I expected and I'm worn out.

Disassembled the beat up dash to salvage all good parts.

The interior is going to be so nice!

I made one good center console out of 2.5. It's not good enough though, so I'm ordering a new cover from datsunparts.com.

Hey I noticed you have the carburetters in the powder coating pile. Even disassembled I would not powdercoat the dash pots of the carb. The fit to the pistons is very precise, and the heat of baking could damage them. Best bet is to clean and polish the aluminium dash pots. The main carb bodies can be Vapor honed or even sand blasted, but the piston and dash pot have a very close fit that is necessary for the piston to lift when the throttle opens.

Thanks for noticing. Those are not going to PC; I know better than that.

They were sitting there so I wouldn't forget to send them off as cores to ztherapy ;-).
