I know on an e30 a Z3 or Z4 lever can be used to give a shorter throw, is anything like this possible with the e28?

this is a sick upgrade. i just put mine on about a month ago.
used the m roadster shifter...
it feels like a window swith, i cant even tell if im in 4th or neutral if u just look at it.
however u do have to bend it because ours curves towards the driver and the z3 is straight

There is also a problem with one of the shifter on the e30 (needs bending) and I wanted to avoid this. Does anyone know the exact part that will fit without modification?

Im not looking for notch to notch but I just want something about 30% shorter....

Call DPP with that part number and have a ball. That's the shift lever from a Euro E36 M3 3.2, E39 M5, and E46 M3. They all use the same part number. I put one in my 528e a few years back, didn't have to bend it, and abso-freakin-lutely loved it.

Below is a pic of it. The PN is different because they changed numbers. Actually, the one I gave you may be an old one since my ETK is from '01, but Brian can hook you up with the right one.

BMW part # 25111222955 is the E36 lever for almost all US models. Its probably just the thing you are looking for. My shift knob sits straight up in neutral. Replace all the bushings while you are in there.

If you have side-to-side slop you might want to get a new coupling as well. That's the part that goes on the other end of the selector rod.

Part number for the coupling is 25117501309, but there have been other part numbers. There are other bits and pieces associated with it: the steel down pin, some O-rings, a C-clip, etc., but the coupling is the expensive one, relatively speaking.

Does someone sell a complete slop reduction kit with all the parts?

What is the number for DPP?

I got the - - - - - 222 955 shifter from Brian with all the bushings, couplers, console hangers AND new seals for the gearbox shafts for a very nice price. No major blood here at all. I haven't put them in yet but everyone I have talked to that has experienced this shifter has loved it.

i believe the 1.9 z3 has a shifter with a bend in it.

another option is an autosolutions short-shifter.... i got one from them with 30% reduction and i love it.... got rid of all the
slop and works great....

Try 'Edit' on your posts that you want to change. For the multiple ones in this thread, you can 'Edit' and then look for the 'Delete' checkbox below the editing box to completely get rid of them.
