Where do the parts for e28s come from these days? Just people selling their things or do they still make parts? Did they used to have like special models made thats strictly the "dinan" e28? Because i saw an e36 that hada dinan emblem on the trunk the other day, it was a violet m3, and oh boy did i ever break my neck. But back to the subject, because, i have a dinan chip and exaust on mine but was on it when i bought it. I never thought anything of it until i start seeing other dinan things on here and around my home. And im just curious about if they make and made special models like that.

A dinan badge can be had by having points. They assign points to various parts. To get the badge you just need to buy enough parts. They didn't release cars the the alpina b9 or hartge h5 but their parts will allow you to keep your warranty in tact (at least here in norcal where they're based)

No, not "still bmw oem parts" in any way. No, there were no Dinan models offered by BMW. There is no such thing as a "Dinan model" anyhow -- just a Dinan badge denoting a certain level of modifications with Dinan parts (as already mentioned above). Dinan was also not a factory dealer.

Some BMW dealers used to be (maybe some still are) official installation locations, as some Dinan parts could not be bought direct. That's the association, nothing more.

You need 10 points to get a Dinan badge. So a exhaust may get you 2 or 3 points while floor mats will get you 1 point.

A lot of BMW dealerships had issues getting Dinan to pay warranty claims. There are only a few dealers that still sell Dinan parts and honor their warranty.

If BMW can determine that a factory parts failure was due to a Dinan part then they will not honor the warranty claim. That is where Dinan is supposed to step in and pay for the warranty repair even if it's not for their own part. We still sell Dinan at my dealership. The quality is top notch and the parts sure do look pretty. Though they should be for the price!

We recently had a guy buy a brand new E92 M3 and installed $12k worth of Dinan products. Exhaust mid section and rear section, rear diff, rear adjustable toe links, and software.

They are still active tuners - the Ganassi Grand Am prototype runs a Dinan prepared 5.0 L V-8 BMW engine.

WOW. Out of how many teams? 20-something maybe?That's impressive.

I love my S62. Sure they're not quite the same but mine is still fun too.

I really think Duke is the one you want to talk to re: Dinan. He can go on for years covering all his thoughts about the engineering genius that is Steve Dinan.

Alright well i think you guys just about covered everything i was curious about. Thank you.

Basically Dinan engendered there own parts and re-engendered some of BMW's Some time overcharging for factory BMW parts. Some Dinan parts are great (springs swaybars camber parts, exhaust systems are nice. There brakes are over priced. And they dont offer much of any thing for our cars anymore.

Hit their website to see what they still offer. Not much but cosmetics. Too bad.

Its not a BMW OEM part but however Dinan and BMW use to have an agreement where Dinan parts would not void your BMW warranty. This agreement ended when BMW came out with their own performance line.

Dinan doesn't support older model cars, so a lot of parts for the older cars (see e28) tend to be quite rare now and in some cases quite sought after.

That's not exactly how it worked. Basically, the Dinan warranty took the place of the BMW warranty, and was supposed to cover the same things for the same amount of time. As I understand it, if a Dinan car came in for warranty work involving Dinan parts, the warranty claim went through Dinan, not BMW.

It's a subtle difference.

Is that how the Alpina warranty is structured now? Not that a plan to have an Alpina any time soon, and certainly not one under warranty, but curious all the same.

Alpina cars are covered under the factory BMW warranty. At least thats how it works with BMW NA. It may be different with BMW AG.
