Very nice! It's really coming together!

Those heads look beautiful, I can't wait to see this car when it's completed.

Just dropped off the heads at the machine shop.

I was talking with the owner and asked if he knew of anyone that had an engine dyno....he then walked me to the back of the shop to his engine dyno room.

He told me that he would help me hook the engine up and I could then spend all the time I wanted tuning it for little moola. I will know exactly what carb jetting an timing it will need for max HP.

How stinking fantastic is that, the baby will be running perfect when I bolt it into the car.

Duke,

Looks like things are going good.

Glad you found a good shop to help you out.

It wouldn't happen to be Yancy's would it?

Its a funny world, I help the guy on the east side of Curtis' shop with his Audi S4 Bonneville car. It had the record for a minute and then lost it by a few 10ths. 220 some odd mph for a 2.2 ltr powered family sedan isn't so bad, I just wish somebody with a BMW would try it.

Curtis is a good guy he will make sure it goes together right, and I will make sure to leave a few cheese doodle crumbs on your block next time I'm up there.

That will be hard......only time the block will be there is when I will have it on the Dyno. I will do all of the assembly myself. You are more than welcome to drop by my house to inspect.

Ignition needs....check!

Image

MSD: ready-to-run pro-billet Distro.

Magnetic pick-up
Built in ignition module
Adjustable mechanical advance (24 curves)
Vacuum advance
Programmable RPM limit

I'm painting the cap and hold down black. No chebby colors on this monster. I am also using MSD super conductor wires and their blaster 2 coil.

SFI billet steel flywheel...........check. Once the clutch pressure plate gets here, the crank comes out for rotational balancing.

Crank is out and with the flywheel, pressure plate and harmonic balancer getting balanced. I am using the same guy who built the engine two years ago. Because he weight matched the rods and pistons, he does not need them.

I am doing this because the engine was balanced with a flex plate.

Was waiting for that question to come up.....I see one of you has paid attention.

On my list to have checked. Not as critical being NA and not using a MLS gasket. Will get the numbers anyway.

I emailed AFR to get the RA numbers when the heads left the factory. BTW, I have see MUCH worse.

SNAKES IN DA HAUSE!

Not Hartge prices but close.

Will be mounted on the engine, installed, all clearances checked, engine removed, Jet Coated, then installed again. R&Ring headers while engine is in the Tiger is impossible.

Price you pay for BIG engine, little car.

That makes two of us. I will take video when I tune it on the engine dyno.

I am not looking forward to driving it to the muffler shop to have the exhaust system made. Will be driving ~10 miles with open headers. I just won't look in the rear view, that way if there is a COP behind me, I wont know as I sure will not be able to hear him.

Crank is back from being balanced with the new flywheel. Short block is assembled.

Today I cleaned up, painted and installed the 1964 timing chain cover. Also installed the harmonic balancer and water pump. I'm gonna pull all of the lifters and soak them in oil overnight. Heads go on tomorrow.

Nope....BTDT and not doing it again. Just aluminum.
mooseheadm5 wrote:No Glyptal?
Thought about it. Really don't want it flaking off in the engine. It should be applied when the engine is just out of cleaning and there is 0 oil. The engine had been assembled when I got it and there was oil on all surfaces.

Have my head(s) on straight now.............

Image
Chasing all of the head bolt threads. Really needed on the lower bolts as they have permatex residue in them. Those bolts go into the water jacket.

Image
1st head gasket in place.

Image
1st head on now repeat all for second.

Image
Image
Pushrods and rockers installed.

Image
Looks like the pushrods are too short. The roller to valve stem marks should be right in the middle. Have to get some longer ones.

My god even the head gasket is color-matching... ;)

Looks great man. I hope to do as thorough of a job on my engine as well. Along with everyone else, can't wait to see it fire up!

Looks great. I hope it has a lumpy sounding cam that shakes the car at idle.
