Question, does anyone know where these little felt pieces belong inside of the driver's seat? In the course of cleaning the interior of this car, I was using some pressurized air to blow the dirt and dust from out underneath the seats. These little felt pieces came flying out, now I have this "creaking" noise when I sit in the seat or shift my weight. Can anybody send me a pic of the underside of their drivers seat showing where these belong? Thanks!

I'm working on getting the front seats touched-up. Just the usual small cracks in the top coat of the leather. Had the same guy touch up the driver's seat bolster in my M3 a few years ago, and he did phenomenal work. Will post some new interior picks after I get that done. Still need to do something with the floor mats.

Appreciate the tip on the leather work....looks great! I'll send you a PM at some point to meet up. Are you going to PVGP?

Had a great first outing to PVGP this weekend! She ran 645 miles in 4 days. Car ran well....still have a little sorting to do (starting hard with occasional stalling with the A/C running). Was awesome putting faces to the names of some of those who I've conversed with here. I also appreciate the additional help and input I got during the tailgate sessions at the hotel each evening. Lots of drinks, jokes, and stories with a great group of people, sitting around with 40 or so great BMW's. Talk about eye candy galore (the cars not the people )!

Will be looking forward to Tedfest and maybe the Vintage next year!

Well I'm happy to report that after several months of chasing down my car's hard start issue, rough idle, stalling, etc. we finally cracked the code this week. A faulty fuel pressure regulator was the culprit. Funny to think I had this car at two BMW indy shops in the area (both about an hour away), and they really didn't even attempt to track the issue down. Not to mention a great deal of advice from forum members, which I was grateful for. I happened to meet an E30 fanatic, who lives all of 5 minutes from my house, who volunteered his time and expertise to help me figure it out. I was going to bring the car into the shop he works at, but he wanted to do it on his own time. That's the BMW community for ya! I still owe him a case of beer at least. Took her for a nice 50 mile drive this afternoon....now I know what an M30 engine should run like!

One last eye sore on my car was the driver's floor mat. As you can see from the photos, it had a hole wore in it at the driver's heal. I had plans on "asking Santa" for a set of Coco mats, but then I got to thinking....why not just replace the driver's mat, or both front mats if I have to buy them that way? The other three mats in this car are like new. Well, I quickly found out that these mats are NLA from BMW, so my only option was to drop 2 or 3 hundred bucks on a whole new set of mats that I really didn't want. "Fuck it", I said, I'm going to fix the driver's mat! I gave it to my upholstery guy this morning. He put a patch on the back side of it, and sewed a heal pad made out of heavy-duty black Naugahyde on the front. He used some thin padding material underneath the Naugahyde to help fill-in the hole that was wore in it. At first glance, you would think the mat came this way originally (and probably should have, or maybe there wouldn't have been a hole wore in it). As the PA Dutch like to say, this is how you make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. Merry Christmas to me!

Thanks for the correction....I was using Naugahyde as a layman's term. We used to have some Shelter-Rite material we used to make covers for fire engine hose beds. Not sure if that's what this is exactly....we'll just call it fake leather. It's definitely tougher than regular vinyl.

So our hometown of Elizabethville is turning 200 years old this year, and festivities include a car show held today. Being that I could walk to the show field at the high school, I decide to enter both of my "collector" grade BMW's....the 535is and "Princess" the M3. Typical of a car show being judged by people who are not in the car hobby, a few trophy's went to flashy, late-model Corvette's and other practically new vehicles over well-preserved and/or restored, genuine antique cars which have had countless hours of restoration and upkeep applied. Case in point, out of the five BMW'S entered (three e30's, my e28, and the Princess), guess which car took a trophy? Yep, the Princess. I have countless hours invested in my e28, and I know my buddy Andy has countless hours invested in he and his wife's e30's (highly modified with air bag suspensions, engine mods, etc.). Oh well, at least the BMW's weren't shut-out from a show field of (I would estimate) 75 cars. They had a great turnout to raise money for our big Bicentennial celebration in August.

I couldn't help but not include this photo. Our 5-year old daughter, Ella, taking the liberty of accepting my trophy. Her theory on who wins a trophy boils down to who can make it to the podium first. Obviously I didn't run fast enough. She did help me wash the cars, so I was more than happy to let her accept it! A future BMW enthusiast in the making.

I definitely would have gone for the E28 over the e46. I'm sure it's great but those do nothing for me.

Have we met? LOL. Yeah Ella won the personality contest hands down. You can see her live in person at PVGP. And her parents and their red e28 will be there as well.

I've owned the M3 for 8 years now. It was the most fun I could have on 4 wheels until the e28 came along. I enjoy driving both of them, but the e28 is absolutely more fun on the back roads in our area (on a stock suspension, I might add). Sure the M3 has more brutal acceleration, but it's almost a clinical experience compared to the e28. That said, I see no point whatsoever in some of these new M cars with 400 +++ horsepower under the hood, which all but do the driving for you anymore. Fuck, even the sound of the engine is fake!

Good point. I have noticed the E39 and E53 we have are both comfortable and quick in handling, however they aren't as much fun to drive as E28 or the older models. The comfort factor mutes the sense of thrill when driving, to the point that you have to speed excessively for fun in the curvy roads.

Funny I just read a 40,000 mile review of a 2016 740iL in C&D (or it may have been R&T, I forget). Anyhow, they trashed it for being a total luxo-boat that wallows over the road like an "old Cadillac"!!! Holy shit, I never thought I would read such things about a new BMW, regardless of weight, size, or target demographic. They also said most of the new gadgets on the inside are dumb and pointless (the hand gesture control bullshit, etc). They thought the interior was staid and uninteresting compared to Benz and Audi. The only nice thing they had to say about it was they loved the engine. Ouch! So, yeah, BMW drank the Cool-Aide a long time ago. Our newest BMW is a 2009, and I really have no desire to own anything newer than that.

Oh, and hang onto your E39. Drove my cousin's 530i with Sport Package/5-sp. and 200k+ miles a few years ago...great car!
