What did you do to your other car(s) today?
Drove the e32 home from Colorado. ~975 miles. The car did great. The bargain tires on it; not so much.
Replaced the broken door handle on our Sienna. The new one is slightly off in color and fitment, but at a third of the cost of oem, my expectations can't be too high I guess.
I also learned one can't leave neutral or negative feedback to a 'proven seller' within 7 days of auction close. Wtf is that all about? I got the part, installed it, and am neutral on it. I guess I installed it too quick?

Considering... I'm glad both you and the E32 made the journey.
Now your next road trip should take you a more direct route

The weather's been so lovely in Seattle this summer that I've been driving the 911 to work quite a bit. I am loving the Bluetooth enabled head-unit I have in Vlad both for hand's free phone use, and for streaming audio.
Ages ago I put a 3.5mm audio plug in the Porsche connected to aux out of the pre-Bluetooth head unit. But this was clunky and I couldn't do hand's free phone.
I decided to try one of the inexpensive Bluetooth units you can buy now. I picked this up on Amazon for $39.99 figuring it would be worth a try.

Installation is a bit of a hack job, but the nice thing is that it's all easily removable for when I show the car.
I used the included double-sided sticky to attach the control/mic unit to the steering column. It's relatively easy to reach while driving and is nice and out of the way.
The unit plugs into a cig lighter outlet and while I hate having something like this mar the look of the dash, it's not too bad, and as I said above, easily removable. The wire to the control/mic unit is stuffed between the knee-kick panel and the dash and the 3.5mm cored to the aux input snakes through the lock hole the glove box.
As I use it more I'll report on how well it performs for hand's free phone use. For audio streamed from the phone it's excellent.

When I last drove the Rat, it came home with hot LR wheel. I got it up in the air and fiddled with the brake. During a break, I went upstairs and priced a new drum from AutoZone 42$ and there was one in stock at the store 2 1/2 miles away. Its Chinese,of course, but it is massive compared to the old drum. It had eroded away to a a noticeably smaller size. The inside diameter was oversized enough to allow the adjuster to drop and jam the shoes. There was quite a bit of dust and rust. I wired brushed everything, greased the flanges and put the new drum on.
I had re-used the drums and rotors when I replaced almost everything else in the brake system. The drum was zorched , it was blued around the outboard braking surface. The lip was cracked and missing in spots. A chunk falling into the brake may have set this scenario off.

I had to pull my 88 Euro Mercedes Benz 560SEC and my Euro 79 450SEL 6.9 from the painter who was supposed to paint it he had had it for several months and when i went to see him, I found the 6.9 sitting outside with a flat tire and the window rolled down.
Nice guy, and I don't begrudge him, but it was appropriate for me to take them and put them in covered storage and look for alternative means (i.e myself) to paint them.
Aside from this, I replaced the door check on my 1997 Mercedes Benz E420 and along with the rear window regulator. The door check has been coming apart for a long time so not a moment too soon.
I was hoping to dismantle my spare M100 6.9 and M117 4.5 engine but I ran out of time.

Currently waiting arrival of new gas tank pump for the M535i. Has the known symptom of reduced gas flow when cornering hard (often age related pump) or low fuel level.
New pump should sort it and provide better fuel pressure. Car has always given darn good mileage - partly because of its v.tall gearing.

Yesterday was wash and wax for the E36 I can't seem to get enthusiastic about. Looks good clean and shinny.
Today the E12 went under the sponge and looks a whole lot better. Along with some shadowline touch up. And fixing the sunroof. Fuse, no. Switch, no. Relay??? Bingo. It's an odd design, mechanically latching, or is it cutout? Either way odd, and the same as E28s. Yes, of course I had a spare.

Fixed leaks, replaced drier and recharged the A/C in the 7. I tried pulling gas into the low side first. She would only take a few ounces. So I flipped the tank and went in liquid, took a good pound, but then stopped taking refrigerant again. Luckily it tripped the lpco, so then I throttled the car to draw it down and metered in the rest of the charge. Result, Ice cold A/C and a lake underneath the car everywhere I stop. Just in time too, because this week... its hot...
Also replaced the water valves on the 7 with a salvaged set and fixed some frayed wires to the valves. This stopped the heat coming out of the defroster vents and footwells.
Removed the dash vent and looked down at my mixing motor flaps. The passenger side seems to be stuck half way. So my next order of business is to remove the center console and try to mend this without tearing out the dash.
On the bright side I think that is my last HVAC problem on that car, so all should be well until something else breaks.

Last night I considered adding another one to the stable. A '98 M3 came up on the local CL for cheap, so the wife & I went to take a look. Not worth my time.
It seemed to run well and drove without any surprises, but it had been repainted a weird non-original color and had oodles of little glitches about it that made me think "don't want" from the get-go. For example, I went to open the driver's door and the trim around the handle kept me from opening it. I opened the passenger door and the door trim fell off. I asked the guy who was showing it (who was not the owner) whether the sunroof worked; he said yes, so I opened it, then it wouldn't close. Good thing it wasn't raining.
I was the first one to look at the car, and walked on it. The kid who was trying to sell it seemed really disappointed. He even texted me three times afterward telling me that he figured out a few of the glitches (including the non-closing sunroof) & got the squeaking from under the car to quit. Sorry; looking for a car, not a basket case.
I was going to link the photos that were in the CL ad, but this morning it's gone. Maybe I hurt his feelings.

That's a great car to put a grin on your face without having to go a million miles an hour. I rebuilt a 73 B convertible a few years ago (seriously, I sprayed it down with glue and drove it through the moss catalog).leadphut wrote:
