SWEET. Just got my new passport in the mail. CANADA BE READY.

The real question is are you ready for Canada?

And, I'm planning to drop by the Tedfest grass show on Saturday for a few hours.

I'll be bringing this, 93 BMW R100 GS to tear up some of the grass. Hahaha.....

No show and shine for this bad boy, it will be the total package, mud and dirt included. Hahahahahaha......

Although, I may have to park the bike on the street since it does not fit the Tedfest criteria for vintage BMW's. Given my history with the event, perhaps Ted will make an exception on allow the bike onto the grass.

Its cool.. I have a dirty "German Police Car" (AKA E39 540i) I can park beside it.

Every so often a motorcycle comes along that successfully escapes the old ideas, changing the course not only of the enterprise, but of the motorcycle industry as a whole. Edward Turner “escaped” the idea that performance motorcycles were big singles when he created the 1937 Triumph Speed Twin – and in the process he defined the sporting motorcycle for the next 30 years. UPDATE.

I just checked out the links to the Vintage photo's sent to us from Scott Sturdy earlier today. There were a few bikes at Vintage.

So, that seals the deal, if vintage BMW bikes are welcomed at Vintage, then the same criteria must be applied to the Ted Festival.

Starting to make plans for the trip. It's possible I may be in town as early as Tuesday afternoon. Will probably play tourist in Toronto for a couple of days.

Question...what's the drive like going west going towards Calgary? Leaving on Sunday I may want to go at least part of the way West in Canada...I heard there are big mosquitos like Wisconsin...

When I went in 2008 I used the Port Huron crossing and it was great! Nobody there and a fast crossing. Coming back I came through Detroit. Ewwwwwwww...

Toronto to Winnipeg: Great scenery going around the top of the Great Lakes.
Winnipeg to Calgary: Flat and boring but it can be done in 1 day.No different than driving on I 90 through SD and part of MI.
Calgary to Vancouver: The best drive of your life in terms of scenery. The Mountains are beautiful Eric. If you have time going home take the Columbia Ice Fields parkway north from Banff to Jasper Alberta and stay overnight there. Then head back the next morning the same way. Totally different scenery going in the opposite direction. I'll get maps and stuff for you Eric and we can discuss it at Tedfest.Cheers. Ted

I can't dispute Ted's comments about the beauty of Northern Ontario, it just adds two days to the trip, AMHIK. If you are going for quick, it is the route through Detroit, Chicago, Minn, Minot and hitting Canada in Saskatchewan. Oh, and the mosquitoes in Northern Ontario and Manitoba hold their own with any in Wisconsin. The Ice Fields parkway is spectacular and worth the diversion. You don't have to retrace your route, you can go west toward Prince George and see the interior of BC following highway 5 all the way to the coast instead. Saves about 200 km.

You make me feel like such a wimp since I always fly to TedFest. I will drive if I go to 5erWest.

Starting to look at travel plans for going home...it looks like leaving Mississauga and going to Sault. St. Marie then Thunder Bay look possible. Then going back through Minnesota, North Dakota and on to Yellowstone (Bozeman).

It seems to take an extra day if I go through the US first then up to Regina, then Lethbridge and back down to Spokane...

Ted and Ted Festival volunteers,

While it's a little late in the game, I have been in touch with dual sport/adventure motorcycle riders about showing up at Ted's Festival.

Most riders already have plans for the long weekend, and I've been communicating with a number of guys on this site, regional forum:

Looks like I will be testing the water at Ted's Festival and I'm counting on a front row seat on the grass for my bike.

As well, Charlie Boorman is riding through our neck of the woods over the next few weeks filming a documentary on a cross Canada trek.

The list of Americans is growing daily and alot of new people coming to see what Tedfest is all about. The Tedfest team had a planing meeting about 2 weeks ago and we went down to the Bradley Museum to see where the cars will be parked. After that we came back to my house for the usual from 2 for 1 pizza and refreshments.





The T-shirts are being printed,the trophies are ordered,the collection of food for the Friday night BBQ is filling up the freezers. The locals who live in the GTA are invited to the Friday night gathering as a prelude to the big event Saturday. Like I said before. Bring your camera's,chairs and get ready for a great weekend of cars,fun and of course meeting new friends and sharing stories with the old friends.

It's great to hear you and the Ted Festival team have decided to expand the criteria and include motorcycles in this year's event. I know making collective decisions on the fly with a group of volunteers is not always easy.

A couple of questions:

Will there be a separate category and prize for motorcycles? I know it's late in the game and perhaps too late for a trophy, but something simple like a tee shirt would be cool.

Second question, if my wife brings her KLR, will you and your team allow her to park it beside my bike? I know in the past you have made special exceptions and allowed non BMW cars onto the grass.

Wow, it's good to see that the Ted Festival family of volunteers is expanding and growing with each passing year.

I found this image last weekend as well. I thought some of the new Ted Festival volunteers as well as those who will be attending for the first time might be interested in seeing just how the event has evloved over the years.

The image documents the humble roots of the Ted Festival. Back then it was a simple approach, friends and enthusisats gathering to share a passion and some good old times. No sponsors, prizes, flyers, websites, etc., just a gathering in a deadend court.

Just a thought but would it be possible for you to invite some Maxbimmer ladies to your Festival and set up a car/motorcycle washing station at the Bradley Museum?

hey guys, I'm kinda loosely planning the drive right now, should I come in thru detroit (401) or up north thru Sarnia (21)?

google maps take me thru 21 due to the shorter distance between the two. I would like to be mostly safe and scenic. So yeah. Ideas?
actually taking the Detroit way is shorter distance. I think the north most is "quicker".

I can tell you the Port Huron/Sarnia border crossing is very fast. Nobody was there when I crossed. I will be going through there on Tuesday.

I didn't go through Detroit 3 years ago, but I did come back that way. They pulled the cars aside a dozen at a time, open the trunks and ran the dogs around each car. Can't remember how long that took...

And the neighborhood...you are lucky there are border police there...
