Quitting the booze is the easiest thing in the world; I've done it hundreds of times. (paraphrasing Mark Twain there.)
I don't drink enough alcohol for quitting to make any difference for me. I had a couple glasses of rum punch tonight because it was NYE, and had some wine last night, but before that it had been about a month since I'd had anything at all. But for those who seek to dump a habit, more power to you.
As for me, eating healthier and getting regular exercise would be more significant life changes that I plan to work toward in the new year. Too many fast-food meals, too many rich coffee/creamer/sugar drinks, too many days where my only exercise is pushing a mouse around... I weigh 245 right now; when I got married 25 years ago I weighed about 190. I've tried to get back down to that many times and failed. A better goal would maybe be to aim for losing 25 lbs and go from there.

So lets start a "support" thread. When we are having a hard time with the "challenge/goal", we can post for support.
Try AA I've been sober for 14 years now...good luck. But if you're not into a meeting thing I will tell you this DO NOT think in 6 months I won't drink, think just for today I won't drink, tomorrow will sort itself out.
That is how I do it, no offence to anyone here, but AA does work, and yes there is a higher power thing in meetings, but G.O.D. can be a Group Of Drunks who get together to share experience strength and hope, that they can maintain sobriety.
Try it for 90 days if not we'll gladly refund your misery.
AA saved my brother's life. AA helped my 1st wife become a dry drunk, but she had way more issues than twelves steps could help.
I honestly drank more before I was 18 than I have had since. And I think the last beer I had was when Shawn was to town and I couldn't tell you how long ago that was. Two years ago maybe more?
Enjoy your savings, Duke. On 01APR09 I walked out of the tobacco store swearing to never buy another cigarette. (went up to $158 for two weeks worth of cigarettes) I haven't had another since.
Well . I am addicted to tobacco. " one is too many and a thousand is not enough" Thats from The Lost Weekend
With the help of a pill that changes brain chemistry and just blows away the chemical addiction to nicotine. I havent had a cigarette in 3 months. But the habit is very much with me. The little rituals that go along with the act of ingesting tobacco. What keeps me going is my promise to my daughter and my happy pill. I am amazed that I havent back slid and am just running with it , a day at a time. I got to the very edge of emphysema and knowing that didnt stop me.
Whatever it takes to make a positive change in yourself is worth it.
I am going to ask the beamters to set up a "Guys on the Wagon" user group that those who are interested can be invited too. This will keep the subject of the main boards and reduce the drama.

I quit smoking... It's turned into a habit this past year, which I know I shouldn't have.. So I'm going to prove to myself that I can quit, by quitting.

I quit smoking 3 times. I had been smoking for 9ish years the first run. First time I quit was when I moved away from Richmond to go back to school. I would still smoke one or two a month, usually around exam time. When I went back to work in Richmond, I went back to smoking at work (only.) I would go every night, all weekend, and any vacations without smoking. I quit again to help the boss quit and that worked for him for a couple of months. Once he started again, so did I. When I got a job in town I quit altogether. I still have half a pack of Camels in a drawer that are about 6 years old.
Good luck to everyone trying to change their behaviors in 2011. I myself am going along with wifey's diet. I will hopefully lose some of this excess weight by eating like she does.

Well, I'm on Day 2 without a cigarette. I'm just doing it cold turkey. I've even been around smokers and have not asked for one. I think it's a good start. The hardest part for me will be not smoking while playing poker. Which is something I do about 5 nights a week with my job.
The Mye28 user group is a no go. Understandable due to the purpose of this site.
I can create a private FB group for my mye28 friends who or on the cigarette/alcohol wagon. Only those invited will have access to its content and it will be hidden on your profile from those who are not members. Lots of stuff to talk about.
Send me a PM with your FB member name and I will get it started. If you do not have a FB account, time to get one and make it very private if you wish.

There ya go! I started a secret fb group myself (If I told you what it was for, I'd have to kill you.). Quite easy to do. Good luck, guys.
