Bryan,

I don't want to argue, but I don't like your analogy which states the 533i is a pig. A 1968 or later bug sucks, but the 533i most certainly does not. Well, I guess a pre-1/84 533i doesn't. ;)

Still, I wouldn't put an S38 in one.

Why don't you just get a used head and have it rebuilt, or do it yourself.

Intake, ported TB, b35 intake manifold, port match intake and exhaust the on the head, bigger valves and an aggressive cam, and have it decked as much as you can without getting into trouble with clearance and put headers on it.

You'll need an adjustable FPR, and bigger injectors.

Now you don't have to take the motor out, and it would be quite a bit more power.

My point was that, for the money you will spend to get what you want (acceleration) the Mustang is a better buy. Not BETTER, just a better buy. I hear you about the babied E30. After my youngest sorta screwed up the 325 we bought for him (experimental learning, remember?) he was thinking about all kinds of things to replace it. What did he buy? Another E30. Now if I can just keep him from putting the Supra motor in it *sigh*

Chris, in my world, a 533i is a pig as compared to a 535i, an M535i or an M5. A 528e doesn't even make the list.

There aren't too many people after the 533i because of its lesser performance. That being said, it may be popular for it's better MPG. But if one is after S38 power, a 533i will be a pig once you're in the M5.

Once you have M5 type power, you won't ever want anything less.

Bavarianut, I believe that many is a millionaire......

You know, with 3 or 4k you could travel in South America for months, take flying lessons, buy a sweet sailboat, have a kegger every night for the next couple months, or fuck, you could save.

You spend too much time on this board, and you start spending all your money on metal shit you don't need.

at 225 hp now, that motor is faster than most everyones m30 here.
wtf?

$1500 for the motor
$200-$300 intake
$400 wire harness
$200 ecu
$1500 inspection for valves

$4100 total that seems quite fair,when a complete m5 is $7500.00
First off....low compression is the tip of the iceberg on a S38! It needs a rebuild, plain and simple.....and it only gets worse from now on. THAT rebuild will cost you about $12-$15K if you take it to a shop....and do it right!....and that's not counting the cost to execute the entire project.

Another thing you may be forgetting is that the power comes on above 4000 rpm with the S38...great for the track, but not so much for street use. My M30 pulls very crisply from about 3000 rpm, the torque is more noticable at a lower rpm with the M30, it's very street friendly and still has mean streak.

If you are so intrigued by S38 power just save your nickles and buy a REAL M5. You'll be happier in the long run!

Then there is the option of saving a bunch of money by dropping in a Chevy small block, that swap would cost considerably less than a S38 swap. ;)

Yep.

And the average board guy with the slightly edgy drivber-class $2,500 535i can sell his car for $2,500, spend another $6-7k and buy a slightly edgy driver-class M5.

And have a $8500-10k car.

Or they can spend the same difference and have an S38 engined 535i and have a $5500 car.

Hmmm..................
