Wild. I didn't know that. Regardless, my guess on the reserve was $38,000. It's up to $38,500 presently, so ... who knows. Looks to be three serious bidders - good news for seller!toddness wrote:I'd be really surprised if the reserve is higher than the current 33K (at the time i started writing this).
BaT is notorious for setting low reserves. One of the interesting aspects of BaT is if a car does not meet the reserve, they reserve the right to buy the car at the reserve.

Re: Lets talk about the nice E28 on BAT
Boom! over $40K
Re: Lets talk about the nice E28 on BAT
All that and it's probably got crappy A/C. They mentioned a new compressor and 134a conversion, but nothing about a condenser upgrade. Oh well, out of my price range anyway, regardless of how nice it looks.
Re: Lets talk about the nice E28 on BAT
So if the last half hour didn't highlight why BaT was the right choice for listing this car, I don't know what anyone could say.
Re: Lets talk about the nice E28 on BAT
Exactly. This should put that argument to rest. Over 30K views and 787 watchers.wkohler wrote:So if the last half hour didn't highlight why BaT was the right choice for listing this car, I don't know what anyone could say.
Re: Lets talk about the nice E28 on BAT
Wow 50K. This makes all of EAG's 88 M5's worth 100k now. Unreal I should have finished my car off and sold it for 60k (LOL).

Re: Lets talk about the nice E28 on BAT
Anyone here thinks THEIR car will come close to commanding this sort of value is suffering from what we call confirmation bias.
Get over it. This is a one time affair.

Re: Lets talk about the nice E28 on BAT
While I don't disagree that there are many, if any, non-M5 cars will command that kind of value, I am inspired to get out the rags, brushes, and q-tips when working on my own admittedly pedestrian daily drivers. The attention to detail is what made this car in my eyes. Thanks to OC Coupe and the seller for setting the bar high.
On another note, Maytag or Vlad would command at least a 50% premium just from CEK's care and attention to detail, IMO. I think it's the same with many other cars on the board.

I hope this gives people a little boost of enthusiasm. We all love these cars for very good reasons. Other people that may not have considered the e28 5 years ago are now recognizing how great they really are. Now there's a little payoff for our passions. Now go give your e28 a little love.

Nevermind George I changed my mind. You convinced me
Should have posted here for 50k and talked the buyer up to 52k
What an amazing flurry of bidding. I am so happy for both parties. Any effort to keep that car in that condition should be rewarded to the highest degree. Koudos!

I think a really nice gesture would be for the seller to take us all out for beers on Friday. Seriously though, congrats to both seller and buyer. You both can be happy with the transaction.

Re: Lets talk about the nice E28 on BAT
I understand how nice the car is .... but it's not even a true 535IS. I guess that doesn't matter in this case. Do you think this will push the prices higher on 88 M5's or M6's? E34 M5's?

First thing I would say is, congrats to the seller, very pleased for you.wkohler wrote:So if the last half hour didn't highlight why BaT was the right choice for listing this car, I don't know what anyone could say.
@wkohler, I think THIS car would have sold higher if marketed through MyE28....

From the seller in the other thread (emphasis mine): "Multiple people contacted me directly that had spent well over $100k on BAT auctions in the last year. One over $250K ...$63K of which was on a e30 Alpina. Another had won an auction for a Magnus Walker prepped outlaw 911. None of them knew of this forum".

Definitely an interesting auction. Goes to show things are worth what something is willing to pay. Also something to note, if you check out the winners bidding history he has been setting the bar price wise for a few different cars in the last few months.

Is this the "heat" some guy was talking about in the other thread?!? PS...I altered my post a little bit to reflect THIS car would attract a better price through MyE28 vs. BAT. The seller may have had any number of concerns other than price that were driving his decision.
I want to make it clear, I am pleased for the seller, and in no way questioning him....what I am questioning is, if securing the highest price was the primary goal for THIS beauty, is MyE28 the best venue for the sale? Personally I think it would have been.

Re: Lets talk about the nice E28 on BAT
But they all would have discovered this forum once the MyE28 listing for THIS car appeared as a featured item on BAT. This never occurred to you did it?Karl Grau wrote:100%, and the worst kind.cek wrote:Troll.George Hanson wrote:First thing I would say is, congrats to the seller, very pleased for you.wkohler wrote:So if the last half hour didn't highlight why BaT was the right choice for listing this car, I don't know what anyone could say.

Did you ever stop to think (doubtful) about what you might be missing? What is the single most important factor in any transaction? Care to venture a guess? Or should I say would you like to take a stab in the dark?

George, you keep speaking in cryptic absolutes and asking questions as though you know the answer. It's oddly aggravating. No, I don't want to take a stab in the dark.
