First of all, you are full of shit. Just because someone does not blow his own horn, does not mean they have not contributed over the years to this neighborhood.

My contribution falls into the category of events and meets. I'm a Tedfest founding father and contributed (time and money) to the event. An event that's extremely popular among members of this neighborhood. Over the years, Tedfest has been marketed on this forum and a road trip destination for many, many members of this neighborhood. I have not been a member of the Ted's team for a number years, but I'm extremely proud of the fact that it remains a very popular event.

In addition, I'm a founding member of Rolling the Twisties. A self guided driving tour marketed on this forum that is extremely popular among members of the neighborhood.

It would appear to me YOU are in denial about other forms of social media having overtaken message forums. You do not have to like it, but it's a fact. Just offering an opinion. Why? Because that's what people do on message forums, even those that are in decline.

To the person on page one who said E28's aren't much to look at: Pppphhhhhhttttttt! Like you can tell the difference between a Hyundi and a BMW today when all the designers CAD-CAM packages use the same bezier curve....fine, it's not an E-type.

I have a 535is that is and has been my daily driver for 9 years. It is well sorted. Clear coat is finally fading in spots. Just painted the mirrors and replaced faded grill parts. Going to be time for a real paint job soon.

I agree with all the comments about the wealth of information here. Outstanding!

This site/forum does need the ability to do pictures. Look how many off-site pictures in threads no longer exist.

So, it's been a while for me

I've been quite busy since moving to a small acreage and having a 4th child. I still have my M5. I have to say, it's been a real treat watching our M5's skyrocket in price. Have you visited BringATrailer.Com lately? I love that site. My M5 has needed some TLC for a few years and I just keep putting it off because I'm too busy with other stuff. My E28 needs work, my E30 needs work, and my schoolbus-to-RV needs work. The last one is highest priority, since it imapcts my whole family, whereas the bimmers are just toys for me.

I am aware of an E28 group on facebook and its not super helpful. It's nice to see more European E28 owners than we ever had on this site, but that's about the extent of the novelty of the FB page.

With the advent of BAT and some of our E28s commanding car-collector money, it begins to make sense to do some epic level restoration, e.g. fixing the seat piping on (wrecked) M5 seats. I've seen some interesting E28 innovation in the last year also (e.g. milled aluminum seat plates? ).

As the parts for our cars become NLA, innovation in restoring and improving them will increasingly come from communities like this one. Ultimately I think that's a good thing.

Does Jeremey still run this board and support it IT-wise? Does he still care about E28s?

This place, and the Yahoo S38/M88 group, are the only ones I know of that are really offering useful technical content for E28 M5s. I'm glad it's still here. Even if people take a break from their E28s, it's nice that this place is waiting for them to come back to for help and support. I hope that doesn't change, and that if/when Jeremey wants to talk away from this, a suitable succession plan is in place.

As someone that has been quietly reading through the MYE28 forum since 2014, I would be bummed if the site were to disappear. I think you have a lot more e28 owners out there lurking around then you may think.

I am a long time E28 owner and have personally owned my 1986 BMW 535i since late 1987. The car looks almost exactly as it did the day I purchased him. I have bought and sold many of cars and trucks over the years, but could never let go of the E28. “Bonn” as we named him, off the Bonn badge that is placed at the back of the car, has been the most reliable car I have ever owned. I can seriously say that we have been through “Hell” together. He is a true survivor that has never let me down. I purchased Bonn before I got married, before I had kids and quite frankly, before I had a ton of responsibilities. I always joke with my wife, telling her if she was as reliable as Bonn, life would have been a lot easier. Unfortunately my wife has had over thirty operations with two major brain surgeries mixed in. That’s where the reliability joke stems from and why I haven’t contributed, priorities! I guess you could call my wife a true survivor as well. There have been many of nights sitting in hospital and recovery rooms reading through the mye28 posts passing the time.

My car is not a show car, nor is in perfect condition. I am still missing a fog lamp from that darn squirrel I took out on the way to Napa, but the fact of the matter is, I have gotten more attention in the E28 recently then I do driving the XJL. I literally had a bus drive leap out of his bus the other day, leaving his patrons sitting there all alone in the bus, while he runs over to check out the car. I also had a guy on a motorcycle, do a double take sitting at the turn signal staring at me, for what seemed like forever. My first thought was, did I cut him off or something and not know it, he then he proceeds to say, nice car. Young kids at the mall often giving me the thumbs up! A guy at 7 eleven stops to telling me, he sure loves those old Beemer’s. I find myself always looking and trying to find another e28 owner driving around, but I have only seen a couple in the last several years! Nice examples are very hard to find these days and folks seem to really enjoy seeing them on the road.

So short story long, thank you to all that contributors to the MYE28 forum, old and new!

That's because the Beamters are good, solid people, unlike some of the folks commenting on this thread.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: mye28 has had a huge positive impact on my well being for the past ~4 years. Thank you all for the community...especially the Beamters who keep it all running with no fuss.

In December of this year, the last few produced e28 chassis will turn 30 years old. Once a car crosses that age, I think it requires a lot more dedication of ownership than just "driving an interesting older car," and so you're seeing less "fresh blood" in these kinds of groups due simply to the challenges and costs of maintaining and driving a car of this age.

Well, take heart, my car just turned 30 this month, and I'm still not quite 20! I've mainly been lurking here, but I suppose I'm what you'd call "fresh blood." I was really happy to find this site, and in the month I've been browsing it, it's been very helpful to me. I decided to buy Pendleton because I was looking for an older (late 80s to early 90s) car and came across him on Craigslist for $1500, well within my price range, and I hadn't seen anything else like him around here. I think I got a great deal. I got the timing belt changed and there weren't any major issues. Honestly I think the only reason he didn't sell for a lot more is that he's peppered with dozens of tiny hail dents, but they're barely visible from a distance anyway!

Still here, still posting.. still asking questions occasionally. The FB thing: you-know-who blocks me (I consider it to be a badge of honor) and the dialogue there is often excruciating. Not bad enough to ignore, but just barely. This site is the apex of all things E28, I'm not ashamed to say I use it weekly, and would really be at a loss without it. I wonder: how many people have donated to the site? I have, if you haven't you should. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to go finish prepping my alpin weiss E28 for her three thousand mile trip to the wastes of Flo-bama...
