Re: FS: 1987 E28 M535i
A realistic price is whatever an M535i needing paint work, potential engine work, electrical work, interior work, and other potential expenses is worth. I'm guesstimating about a $6000 value.
Re: FS: 1987 E28 M535i
Apparently. Poor kid believes that everybody is trying to low ball him. I guess that's understandable if you also believe you have a rare car on your hands. Unfortunately, fishing line used in the engine compartment was a huge red flag for me. Otherwise I would have entertained going to at least look at it.OcCoupe wrote:So ebay is wrong too.demetk wrote:It was on ebay for $12,250 but nobody bid on it.

Re: FS: 1987 E28 M535i
Yes, poor kid is not in the business, even though immortal motors is in that business, of trying to get low production vehicles at fair prices and flipping them so he can roll a 930. If he was in the business and knew much about it he would do his due diligence and make the car as correct as possible for a few hundred bucks, be able to talk intelligently about the condition of the items with issues and actually try to SELL the car instead of defend it from the most knowledgeable group of E28 folks in the world. Everyone knows to put lipstick on the pig before you sell.
Re: FS: 1987 E28 M535i
He didn't even do that. He had the car listed for sale before it even got here. He hadn't even seen it beyond what was in the video. He doesn't have a title or any other ownership documentation other than the export certificate. Between that and the automatic trans, it's enough to turn buyers off.

The listing description is rife with inaccuracies. No surprise there.

Re: FS: 1987 E28 M535i
The ebay verbiage
Very rare and unique car imported from Japan in 2015; 1 of 2,100. Likely the only Euro-M535i Japanese-Spec in the country, this BMW is the cosmetic precedent for M535i's in the country based on my research. There are 27 registered M535i's in the country of various nation imports. You will be hard pressed to find one in this good of condition cosmetically, let alone LHD! As for condition, there is no rust on the surface or undercarriage as it comes from a climate where salt and weather are not an issue. The engine does need to be tuned up and some loose ends fixed. It is the low compression engine, opposed to the high compression non catalytic. Has BBS wheels, not original but look 1000x better in my opinion. This car has been in storage for the winter. This car turns heads everywhere I go and it is a great story to tell. I challenge anyone to import one of the caliber at the same price. I have complete records of import. Also have the original owner manual and guide, all of which are in Japanese so it looks really unique and they look as if they were made yesterday. Two sets of keys too.

What it needs...
An exhaust clamp needs to be welded. There is a kill switch for the battery so as long as that is switched prior to leaving it, drainage is not an issue. This car is 90% of they way there, with some money invested into the engine and eventual (subjective) sport suspension upgrade, this car will be the ultimate sunday driver. The paint looks pretty good as you can see, some spots have been repainted but it was matched to original color. Only paint issue is mirrors where the paint is flaking.
I've done some marketing trends with excel forecasting for over the last half decade. I've seen on with 129k sell for 14k six years ago, I've seen a RHD with more miles sell for 12k last summer, and the most exquisite I've seen sold for 16k over a year ago with nearly the same miles. This is 25% the price of an M3 and about 50% of a M5, assuming they aren't beat to shit.
I started this bad b**** up today and she drove great. She really needs someone who will love and appreciate her. PM me for many more pictures or questions - I will send email and google drive links.
I had it valued by two NH BMW specialists, I can send you their company info and you can contact to confirm. Valued at high 13s as is. I have no reserve, I can entertain offers but please compare them to current market examples, this is not a daily driven U.S. 5-series, I'm tired of people treating it as that.
That is what he said
Yup errors abound in that listing. Doesn't look like he is getting his 930 by selling this car. He has a ways to go to move it along.

Re: FS: 1987 E28 M535i
The thing that really gets my goat on this (and Ashley's debacle) is that I really do want an M535i. But the attitude of the seller is so buyer-unfriendly that I know that this car is destined to be parted out (like Ashley's).

I don't even want to think about the BS about being the cosmetic precedent and how many M535s are registered. Lol. I did some economic forecasting with AltaVista.

I wonder what the value of my 10:1 compression, sport gearbox version is worth now? What is the most we have seen one trade hands for? Lowest?

I couldn't get through reading the whole ebay listing. I can't even pinpoint a style of the writing, the Millennial stuff earlier in this thread is hilarious, but there's also such an overt style of bullshit and bragging that I can't classify it.
My favorite odd wording and idiotic parts though are bolded:
My favorite odd wording and idiotic parts though are bolded:
Wait, I thought he said that he brought it over at the end of 2015 after an "associate" in Japan picked it out. Maybe associate is the same as one-off enthusiast? In summary, do or don’t do me a favor before I slam this and register it for Alpha Class at Wolfsgart come July. I was told an E30 won last year…
I have big plans for the spring/summer of 2017, like many enthusiasts if your heart is somewhere else, you're going to follow it.
Now the gravy, pricing. In terms of valuation, I’ve had one-off enthusiasts/specialists quote me $12,000 - $15,000 before restoration. It originally sold in ’15 to a California gentleman for $14,500 who backed out due to emission standards.

If you are familiar with importing, Newark and Boston are difficult logistically. I did RORO shipping to Baltimore from Tanaka, with the car arriving at my doorstep in November of 2015.
It sits in the same spot in the garage and he is still washing it every week? WTF is the point of that? Please DM me with questions or concerns. Car is for sale locally and will be attending shows/events come spring until sale. For now it sits in an indoor garage and will be washed weekly. I have a folder of over 100 photos for serious buyers, however all in person visits are more than encouraged. Also, happy to assist with shipping, lots of domestic and international experience. Thanks for your time and consideration!

The good news is, if the work was actually done, the car is in much better shape than before.Adam W in MN wrote:I couldn't get through reading the whole ebay listing. But this to top:
Even though he's (apparently) done work to make the car better I still think this car is destined to be parted out. He's digging a deeper and deeper hole with each turn.white chocolate wrote:This is hilarious, and incredibly spot on.cek wrote:That's actually a pretty good song. Thanks for sharing.
I cant stop laughing.
Wait till all of you guys are old and we are in charge. This place will be so screwed. ( The board and the country)
Re: FS: 1987 E28 M535i
Why, what is the big problem with the car that makes it so bad? You seem to speak like you know the car intimately.cek wrote:Even though he's (apparently) done work to make the car better I still think this car is destined to be parted out.
Re: FS: 1987 E28 M535i
The owner is the only problem I see with the car. If he wasn't trying to just flip stuff with puffery as he has since he got it, he could have sold it and even made a bit of money but it's obvious from his current ad that at his previous price and the offer he supposedly had, the car had many issues lurking. I really hope this car ends up in the hands of a proper enthusiast that will take it the rest of the way or enjoy it, but I'm afraid many of those will be turned off by the seller.
Re: FS: 1987 E28 M535i
Yep, it has nothing to do with the car. It has to do with the seller. Ashley's M535i was an ok car. She pissed off every prospective buyer. The car deteriorated further. It got parted.wkohler wrote:The owner is the only problem I see with the car.
