Well it's my only car right now so, yeah.

Also I am hopelessly addicted and sort of can't STOP driving it, so there's that.

But I've been on two long (1000-3000 mile) road trips with it as well and haven't had a single issue that couldn't be cured by banging on the fuse box a little.

Couldn't be happier, but we'll see when it gets hot in a month or so (no A/C).

Also, my only car. Though I wonder when I am going to spend the time to make it more comfortable. It really rides like shit and these roads around here. I turn a corner and hit a bump at the same time and I think I going off the cliff of a hairpin turn while rallying in the swiss alps. I'm sure every piece of rubber needs to be replaced. Maybe I'll enjoy it more once I get around to that...

I bought my 535is in February of last year and it shared daily driving responsibility with an E46 328i I owned at the time. It had actually been my wife's car but she wanted an XC70. Sold the E46 to a buddy just around a year ago and have been DD'ing the E28 ever since.

It's fun. Period. It may be about the slowest BMW I've owned, yet somehow feels like the fastest. It handles well. It looks incredibly classic - and it is.

This car has literally changed my life, getting me back into working on my own vehicle and having the sense of pride that comes along with that. As so many of you know, another thing that comes with that is a 'closeness' to the car. I haven't owned a car that I feels represents who I am in this way since my first 240DL.

I drive the hell out of it everyday. I abuse the engine knowing that if I destroy it, I can always get a B35. This is the first of my BMW's I've driven the way the designers meant for it to be built because I'm confident in both it's abilities to work correctly and my own abilities to make things right if they should go wrong.

I daily drive my E28.

I had a similar story with selling a new car and driving an old car. I had a 2000 Audi A6 a couple years back. I bought it cheap and fixed a couple of things. It was everything you want a modern car to be: quick, great ride and handling, power everything, good looks, etc.

I sold it and bought my now 88 535is (with plenty of money left over). The Audi just wasn't the same. To most anyone that move seems illogical, You sold a car and bought something older?? But us enthusiasts, we know.

Me too. I was driving a beatup (by me) 2004 grand prix, completely uninspiring but comfy.

Well I was on hard times so I sold it and kept my eye out for an e28 (I had been considering one of them for a bit, or another old euro sedan), hopped on it for cheap and threw the rest of the cash into the business.

Turned out to be a great decision in more ways than one.

I sold my Lancer Evolution VIII in '09 after six years of daily driving that and have been daily driving the e28 ever since. The e28 is always getting nice compliments. The only thing I wish it would give is better fuel mileage.

Most of my driving is in the city, 99.7% of it. OBC shows 15 mpg average, I reset the counter at every fill up and at 170 miles it's running on fumes. I start looking for a station around 150.

I like Durden's story alot (and your car looks cool too man).

I don't currently DD my E28 -- mostly to do with the fact I have a short, gridlock-prone commute and sitting in traffic in any car isn't particularly pleasant. Plus the stop and go is a lot of wear and tear on clutch components the age of which I'm mostly unsure about (save for replaced master & slave). Plus I'm in that same category with mostly non-functioning AC and such.

It's comfortable enough to drive daily and I have alternative modes for getting to and from work if it somehow crapped out on me one day, but I also have a newer Japanese car I can subject to this commute that probably takes the abuse better.

Thanks though for inspiring me to drive the E28 to work today .

Wow, I had a 5 speed and was more suburban or highway, but I was pissed if I saw less than 20.

I have a garage queen ///M5 and would DD an E23 or E28 if my wife would let me, however its probably best if we only own one high maintenance car at once.

Maybe it's an LA thing because it was recent mileage like his that got me looking to retire the '88 as a DD. I went from an average of about 200 miles per tank down to 180; with the recent price spikes, it was enough for me to throw in the towel.

My ETA gets 270+ miles per tank mixed driving. Its enough to where my second car can be a gas guzzler and I still have a decent economy to fall back on that has class.

Because my Taurus is comfy, gets 400 miles to the tank, is 24 years newer with 100,000 miles less and only cost 1,800. It's really nice to dd something you never have to worry about.

Yep, same here. I could get another car and I have a sportbike I could ride if I really wanted to save money on fuel, but I really enjoy driving the e28 despite it's city fuel mileage. I think if I were to commute on the highway the fuel mileage would be comparable to others. For reference the OBC shows the average speed at 21 MPH, hence the poor mileage at 15 MPG.
