Having grown up (and still living in) New Haven and the surrounding areas you get used to good pizza. While Pepe's, Sally's and Modern are all great, my favorite New Haven pizza exists at BAR. They are always consistent, while Pepe's is more often than not having an off night. Both the mashed potato and bacon pizza or sausage and cherry pepper pizza are amazing.
There are a few spots in the surrounding counties that are also awesome, most notably Olde World in North Haven and Eli's on Whitney in Hamden that was formerly Bimontes Pizza Castle. The owner of Olde World worked at Modern for many years until he quit and opened up his own pizza parlor.
If anyone is in the area, feel free to PM me and I'll gladly grab a pie/beer with them.

Well those are two very different things. The pizza by the slice thing would require that your reheat each slice.
