Zombie apocalypse e28

So a few weeks back my car started smoking on the way home from work. I get home, pop the hood and notice i'm leaking coolant everywhere. Poured some in, drained the whole thing in a few minutes... Realized that the lower radiator hose disconnected... Hmm, could be my problem... So I reattatch the hose and pour some more coolant in. Well, that was a waste of coolant. Still leaked everywhere right away. Turns out that when the hose disconnected, the alternator ripped a hole in the hose... Got a new hose and put it on, still leaks and starts smoking when I drive. SO I figure it's time to get the new timing belt and water pump on. After I got the new parts on, I put some coolant in and some fresh oil and it runs better than it did before!

I had that issue with the hose with my e30. Shit pissed me off b/c it was a new hose!

It really does, I'm so much happier with how it drives now.

The hose was so annoying, I replace the radiator hoses months ago so the one that got destroyed was new... Already got the same hose twice!

Decided I was tired of the stupid spot on my hood... So I took so tools I got for christmas back to home depot and returned them and got a few cans of plasti-dip... Figure it was my day off so I painted my hood. Kinda like it, not too sure yet. Atleast I can peal it off if I don't like it!

I like this a lot! I really dig the brown though, at least from the pictures it looks great. That was a steal on the airdams... i have to ask, any interest in selling one?

2 2.5" pipes? Dear freakin Gawd! Even turbo cars on here only run about 1 3" pipe. Hell I am a non turbo eta and only run 1 2.5" pipe... might be overkill lol!

I knowww, it's wayy too unnecessary... But when I got it, the exhaust was cut off at the cat, so I got the 2 pipes put on. I love when it backfires next to cops parked on the side of the street in the city. I've set multible car alarms off. It's even scared a dog, I have fun with my car!

Went to the junkyard today to try to find an e34 rear bumper and headlights.

I ended up walking away with a set of e34 headlights and a spare low beam for $20

Also a pair of mk3 jetta trek edition front seats. They are in awesome condition as well, just need a cleaning. Also, they were only $20! Going to see if I can make adapters for them or whatnot to make them fit. I thought about grabbing the rear and try to make it work but I figure that would be a much harder task. I knwo they aren't everyones cup of tea, but I love the old retro designs on these seats. I plan on finding a set of black e28 rear seats to swap out.

I was upset I couldn't find an e34 rear bumper I could use, they were all smashed up and cracked. Hopefully next time though!

So I decided to test fit the seats I picked up from the mk3 jetta... I took out the passenger seat and vacummed the floor and under the seat and got it all clean... Pointless because I just put in a seat I got from a junkyard 2 minutes later... The seat fits the the spot good, I just need to figure out how to mount the seat. What I was thinking of doing was taking the mounts and tracks off the bottom of my e28 seats and cutting off the legs of the mk3 seats and welding the e28 bottoms to the new seats. I may have to take off the plastic side tray on the mk3 seats though. That's fine with me though.

I plan to re-upholster the rear seats with the same black that's on the mk3 seats. I'm not sure if I want to do the pattern on the center of the rear seats or not. If anyone has re-upholstered their rear seats in an e28, I would love some tips. I'm also going to re-wrap the door cards as well.



While I was cleaning the carpet, I pulled up the back a little bit to find a huge rusted hole under the carpet behind the passenger seat on the floor. Lucky me, more holes to fix...

Nice color pattern on the centers of mk3 seats! I always like the VW patterns.

I haven't gotten to my reupholstering project yet either, but I did read a lot about doing it yourself. I found a thread about a guy who did his own camaro seats though and he went into some good detail. Basically, take the leather off of your old seats. Use it as a pattern for the new material. Flip it inside out and label each edge that meets with another, use numbers or letters to differentiate. This will allow you to disassemble the peices that are sewn together and trace the shapes on your new material. Make sure you transfer the labeling over to the material. Also, it's a good idea to mark each edge several times in different places so you know where they will line up instead of just putting a lonely 1 in the middle and not knowing which edges line up at the end of the stitching. Using this method, you should be able to get your patterns and then start stitching it back together. One thing I haven't researched yet is the type of heavy duty thread to use (I would assume a polyester thread so it doesn't take on stains as easily as cotton thread) I also have yet to figure out the stitch patterns to use. I even though about take a pencil or pen and tracing the stitches onto the new pattern so you have a guideline to follow while sewing. Good luck! It should be pretty straight forward once you have stencils and patterns to follow. I hope to getting to mine by next winter...if Leatherique or the likes doesn't fix up my front seats before hand.

So yesterday I sold my tired fomr the style 29's I previously had on the car to my friend for $150 and a set of black door cards he had laying around in his barn. They were pretty rough and the arm rests had a good bit of mold on them, but they cleaned up pretty nice.

Got them cleaned up this morning and i'm much happier with the interior, I need to find a black rear seat and paint some more tan interior bits.

And of course the driver door is the only one with a door handle trim piece... I only had one tan one that was not cracked so I painted it black and threw it on.

I also threw in one of the mk3 seats I'll be making mounts for to see what it will look like againt the black door cards now... I think I'll be happy...

I still need to fix some of the sagging fabric on the doors but after that I'll really be happy with it!



Also I un-tucked my bumper for the thousandth time... But who reallly cares about that.

Yeah I think theyre gonna look really good. I just cant wait to start driving mine lol. Thought I was all done with brakes then I found out one of my pistons had siezed, so brakes will have to wait till tuesday when the rebuilt caliper comes in. She's gettin close though

I just have the spray the bottom with some undercoating and it's done! It's a little quieter inside too!
