Yes, clearly I did a google search, but that was only after I had no luck with other means of finding interviewee subjects. I posted here in hopes of finding people who have truly been affected by this and would like to get the story of the person they cared about out there. If I was not interested in the subject, or honestly did not care for it, I would not have chosen to do a project on it in in the first place.

I'm just gonna go out on a limb here and say what the fuck is with the @ symbol? I'm pretty sure everyone would've known who was being addressed without the social networking homage or whatever. OK, good luck with the school project. Personally, the whole issue smacks of natural selection to me.

You may call it what you wish but this is a social site by nature, hence the @ symbol and I was speaking to more than one person and thus felt it necessary.
Secondly, I do not believe it is not a a case of natural selection. Natural selection occurs through things people cannot control or outside factors that occur in a natural state of things. Technically, people can control student debt and their choice to end their lives. I know some people feel these things are not choices, but they ultimately are.

Social site or not, it hasn't been needed here for the last ~10 years and we've gotten on just fine. The convention may be necessary elsewhere but trust me, it isn't here. Thusly, feel free to let your freak flag fly should you be so inclined. Read more existential philosophy and then go back to journalism, maybe then the natural selection correlation will make more sense. You may call it callous, but I call it survival of the fittest.

Kids today need more paper routes. The demise of the youth-work-ethic started with the demise of the evening edition of the newspapers in virtually every city.

Ok, only partially joking, but I worked on paper routes as a kid after school and it is a damn good job at teaching a kid about -having- a job and being responsible. I think kids today should have some kind of job before they get too side-tracked by stupid crap that kids do today on their way to becoming, as someone posted, 'urinal cakes' (l lol'ed reading that).

I realize printed news is on the decline, and especially evening-editions and thus is not a solution.

Mowing yards sounds like a good job for a kid though, imho... knew friends that did that stuff too. I think of the friends from my youth that I still keep up with, the ones that had jobs as kids all wound up doing pretty well. The slackers are still largely slacking.

I'm in the same boat. I'm just under $110,000 in student loan debt. About 60% of that expense was the cost of my bachelor degree in Business. The other 40% was my flight training. Six years into the career and with $37,620/yr to fly a friggin' jet with people's lives in my hands it's very hard to pay $1,236 in monthly student loan payments.
