Based on the responses from the TireRack guy I've been emailing, I'm the only person that's tried haggling over their prices. :?

In other randomness, I was hooking up a new router today and it crossed my mind, how did we ever get along before home WiFi?

Thanks for the link but I upgraded several years ago.

Two were freebies. I would never have bought that many with my own money.

Looking over some old posts in Curbside Classics and the MB 280e, I see none other than the oft revered here, Daniel Stern. Assuming it's the same guy, and he does write with a similar technical style, and if his avatar is him, he looks like he should be in ZZ Top. Not good or bad, just not what I had pictured. Image

News of the weird. Someone tried to bring a Peacock on a plane as an emotional support animal. Now I'm no fan of United, but this time I think they got it right.

Where's Tim to chime in when we need him?

I never get the flu. It's for other people and if I do it's mild and just a few days, kind of like a bad cold. Last year I got it and was the sickest I've been as an adult. Knocked me on my ass for a week. It was the 1918 kill 100 million people flu, not the maybe take 2 days off work flu.

In other words I feel your pain if you've got the bad one.

Thanks, Mike. I never get the flu either.

I can’t take the flu vaccine because of an egg allergy. I first saw symptoms on Tuesday, and has only been getting worse. Saw a doctor yesterday, confirmed it was influenza B, and said it would likely take another week or so before I’d be back to anything close to 100%, even with antibiotics and Tamiflu. All I can think is what this would be like if I were 20 years older.

Just saw one of the most bizarre options I've ever seen on a motor vehicle. An automatic, power, running board. What's worse is the driver, not a small guy, didn't even seem embarrassed. I'd have had a paper bag over my head. Maybe a plastic bag taped tight. And I'm 5'9" with legs so short they barely reach the ground. My Datsun has running boards and stepping over them is the hardest part of getting in that 4WD.

Power running boards. :puke:

Lincoln? They've had that on the Nagivator for years now. I see the new GM trucks have one too, and it will move backwards so you can grab things out of the bed if you pass your foot under it in the right place. My mother had a newer 1/2 ton Chevy full size, and I added running boards so she could get in the truck. She's 5'3 and just couldn't get into it otherwise.

No, this was just a 3/4 ton Ford 4X4. Stock height and they guy driving it was probably a head taller then me. If you need a ladder to get it maybe it's not the right vehicle for you.

That is one of Marina's dislikes of the Rat. Its completely stock and probably sagging on its springs. Too high to step into easily.

A new topic in FAQ:

How to Post Photos, Pictures, and other Images

What kind of images are other than photos of pictures? ( Don't say Jade or the mouse which will hit it, while it's warm :D )

Just got back from vacation. Damn. But saw the strangest thing in one motel, a glowing faucet. I guess current is generated by the water flow and it's temp sensitive, blue for cold, green for medium and red for hot. Uh... I really don't need a glowing faucet. Had to look it up afterwards and of course it's available on the big A. It's actually bright at 3AM if the better half is trying to sleep.

The real question is did the motel install that in all the rooms, or did some troll put it there for laughs.

So today I am home at noon eating lunch and wasting time on the Internet. Suddenly I hear a Boom! noise from outside my front door, as if someone dropped down a REALLY heavy package. I am expecting no such. I go and peer out, there is no package on the doorstep. But out at the front curb there is a big guy unhitching an industrial size air compressor trailer from his pickup truck. Then I notice on my driveway in front of one bedroom window facing the street, there is a jackhammer that probably was the source of the noise and vibration that interrupted my lunch.

I go out to the big guy and let him know that he is close, but needs to be one house over to the east if he means to take out a driveway, something my neighbor shared with me just the previous evening. Next door, no one is home all afternoon as workers then proceed to turn a concrete driveway into rubble.

I call a friend to share the story and she says I could have had a free brand new driveway paid by someone else's insurance!

Have you seen the toilet bowl night-lights?

We had a late dinner at a friend's house a while back; I walked into a darkened bathroom and saw the stool glowing. Kind of a freaky thing when you're not expecting it!
