OPERATION TIGER'S TEETH -**Boltin on MO Power**
Wait, really? Caterhams are ~1300lbs with driver... your car, with a V12... and all that metal... I don't see it.sbeckman7 wrote:The one I'm building should weigh less than 1800 fully loadedDuke wrote:What car do you have that weights 1770 lbs? Duke, this is one seriously awesome Tiger, it literally is the poor mans Cobra. I'd give a lot for speeds like this car produces.
Controlling that Tiger's ass..........
With the new found HP came new found problems......one of which is wheel hop caused by rear spring wind up. Here it the fix, a torque arm.

This torque arm is custom made for the Tiger. It bolts to the back of the dana 44 rear end and then attaches to the uni-body cross member. Only two 3/8' holes are needed to be drilled in the crossmember for its installation.
Hand made by a fellow Tiger enthusiast and each part is hand stamped #0170 for the unit made. All of this for $285 shipped. I will need to take it apart and paint it, installation will be a breeze.
Gonna be a monster at the drag strip!

Torque arm is painted and ready for install. Will do that in the morning.

I spent the last two days tearing the front of the engine apart in order to replace the front main seal. I know now that there are two different style timing covers for the SBF. The early cover has the seal installed from the back (what I am using), the newer cover the seal is installed from the front. My gasket set was for a newer engine and thus when I installed the seal from the back, it was in backwards. Needless to say, it leaked.
All seems to be oil tight thus far.

Yes it is. The Tiger community is very much different than the BMW performance community. Equipment is made and sold at close to cost instead of trying to make as much money as possible off of each other.Xenocide wrote:That seems like a pretty damned good deal for such a one-off custom piece, and it looks well made to boot.
Don't be so sure, I've personally got ambitions to release a decent product at my cost (IF I'm good enough to follow through and build itDuke wrote:Yes it is. In any case, I've always had a soft spot for British roadsters

Let us know how it turns out.

Torque arm is in and I think it is the shit. Car really scoots along now with no drama from the rear end. If enough torque is applied, the tires simply spin with no hop.

Now.........the FRIKIN oil leaks. Got the front main fixed and now this -
Seems to only do it when not running. I just installed a very expensive one piece steel and silicone oil pan gasket too. If it is the rear main, I am going to punch some puppies
Engine and trans will have to come out to fix it.

It is a Ford. The car is British. It will always leak.
This is why God invented newspaper . . . to put on the floor of your garage.
However this does suck, bro.

Mechanical secondaries and choke.
I predict 10-15% more power over the current 600 CFM. That will put the engine at 465-485 HP and a power to weight ratio of 5.3 - 5.1 lbs/HP.
^^^what the hell is that?

Looks like one of them new-fangled portable air conditioners...
Are we absolutely sure you're not gonna twist that motor right out of the frame when you hump it?...
You're almost as scary as Ken...
(in a good way, of course)
Carb is on. Initials feel was the primaries were too fat. Dropped them three jet sizes (all I had) and the engine likes........likes A LOT!
Seat of the pants tells me I have 1,000,000 more HP.
Will need some dyno time to get it dialed in but it is good enough for the drag strip next month.
Remember - TOO MUCH HORSE POWER IS JUST ENOUGH.

I take that as a complement, car is still straight.TSMacNeil wrote:Are we absolutely sure you're not gonna twist that motor right out of the frame when you hump it?...

Just let me know when you are at MCI. I will pull up, scare the crap out of you and have you back in 10 minutes.TSMacNeil wrote:
You and I need to go for a ride someday. Rich too.
Gotta do it. I'm the unsafe one, so you better fly...or Rich.
If you stay longer, we have a guest room. Then I will take you up in the Cherokee and make you cry like a little girl. How often do you do 0 to -Gs in the cattle movers you fly?

Never...unless something is really really wrong.
I'd love to. We don't fly to MCI yet, but I can ride on anybody for free...so thats no problem...lets do it sometime, for sure.
Lets make it real............check your calendar and let me know when possible. The club aircraft will not be back here till late Sept at the earliest due to the hanger getting flooded. Worst case, we fly out of the the Kansas City downtown airport where the Cherokee is right now.TSMacNeil wrote:I'd love to.
