I envy you and your bride. You have such an adventure ahead of you. So much magic, incredible laughter and joy to experience.
The sagacious Ol'Doc is very correct, start puttin' away those scheckles for college. It will be here so very quickly and trust me, it is NEVER Enuf.
Since I've met ya and BTDT, please allow me to share these thoughts with you.
You'll NEVER, EVER do anything as important as prepare your child for the world. You'll need a lot of patience, discipline (for you, Mom and junior) and love. You are his role model for some time to come. Demonstrate curiosity and he'll educate himself. Let him make mistakes (with you there) and he'll grow to be a problem solver. Show compassion for others and he'll be a warm, thoughtful human being. Ask questions and be thoughtful about every day life and he'll not let anybody else do his thinkin' for him.
Most importantly, give of yourself. Your time with him is the most important thing you can give him. Make memories for the whole family. The greatest joy you'll experience are the memories that HE'LL remind you of when you are both older. Lots of laughs and some moist eyeballs for sure.
And while I'm preaching, don't forget Momma! She will need you in different ways now. Be there for her. She'll worship you for the time and thoughfulness you give her. Your marriage will be richer and fuller, not to mention WAY more fun. WooHoo!!!!!!!
OH, OH the diapers!! Gawd, the diapers!! !@#$ !@#$ !@#$ It IS OK to HURL a time or two, really.
My little grandson threw up in a restaurant a couple weeks ago while sitting right beside me and DUDE, those awful, retch-inducing diapers of years ago prepared me as I very deftly grabbed a bowl of chips on the table and put them up to his mouth so he could empty his stomach. After a few moments, he looked up at me, smiled and said, "Dank U Daze" (translation= Thank You Dave). Puke was Nuthin' compared to those portable, toxic waste sites!
With that, I'm back-flippin' off this damn soap box.
